To go to the store or not: toilet seat edition

The toilet seat in my powder room is old and a little loose and I’d been meaning to replace it, but never got around to it. Today my wife told me that it friggin cracked. It’s still in one piece but I’m not sure it’s capable of supporting human asses anymore. Earliest delivery dates are May 11 from Home Depot or May 6 from Amazon. So...looks like I have a trip to Home Depot in my future, sometime before May 6 preferably. Yay!

I think I would still order from Amazon. Everything I’ve ordered from Amazon has been delivered much quicker than they estimated.

Yeah I think they’ve been padding the delivery dates because they’re sending a lot of stuff via USPS and UPS whereas almost all my deliveries from Amazon had been Amazon drivers previously.

As an admitted human ass, I must say if you have a local Ace or True Value, you can have a toilet seat waiting for pickup in the quick lane. My local TV hooked me up within an hour, and although I had a few people in front of me, I had already paid, touched nothing but my stuff and walked out. Plus local franchaise!

There are some Aces sorta kinda near here but farther than Home Depot. True Value is farther. Home Depot does have online ordering for store pickup so I’d probably go that route if I decide to set foot in a store. Not sure if they’re doing curbside.

The hinges broke on my downstairs toilet. At first it was just one side, but a few months later the other side broke and it was getting a little difficult to use. I did a little searching and found that I could buy just the hinges for around $5, and when out and about one evening I stopped at Lowe’s to pick some up. They had no idea that you could buy just the hinges (I didn’t search Lowe’s website earlier and just assumed that they’d have them), but I found that a replacement seat, with hinges, only $2 more...

In this case the seat itself is cracked. I put a nice wooden soft-close one in our master bathroom a while back and will get something similar for the powder room. It’s just the whole needing it sooner than later in the middle of a pandemic thing.

You can probably order online (or call) for curbside pickup? Believe our local HD is doing that. The local ACE Hardware has been excellent - they have a full on fast food chain type drive thru line for order pick ups with an intercom where you just roll down the window, tell them what your order was, and they bring out all the items and throw it in your trunk.

I've done three or four curbside orders at home Depot recently. Way easier than getting in the entrance line.
