Psssst. “Hangar”. I looked for years and finally converged on “Hangar” as the answer...

I sold a car to a guy that shares a hangar for all his car purposes....I’ll have to look into pricing

Well then, not much to go on by I am honestly surprised the seller even knows what it is. I wish we had the back view, so I googled it. A strangely good looking car altogether. Very very rare for sure in the US, so I would say NP because where are you going to get another one?

I had similar plans, but ended up with a large lot and a one car garage, now after almost three years work I have 3.5 stalls, what I had before, and a mortgage again.
Don't be me, nice find on CL, never seen one in the flesh or for sale anywhere near me.

Even more rare here in Canada I bet. I’d say NP too, it certainly looks savable

The pisser is that the “plane guys” can be a little snobby about the “no cars and no car hobbies” thing. So you definitely need “no HOA” and “not a land lease where the land is owned by the airport, especially a city-owned airport”.
However, I found there’s a certain crowd that is welcoming and very much “Don’t Tread On Me” and “I don’t care what you do in your hangar”.
If you get to the point where you are serious I found “Barnstomers.com” to be a great resource. Click “Airport Properties” and look at Big Hangar Porn.

And it appears to have no major rust of any sort. Incredible. Maybe it was a summer only car?

Summer only and/or parked many many years ago

I need it! This is exactly what I am saving for. I only have $600 saved at the moment though. I have a G180Z in my garage to rebuild and swap in as well.

The g ears are turning in my head to make this happen now. A new roof is being put on the house in a month. I can definitely make everything be ready by then.

Are you localish, in the case I need a go between?
Anyone have transport company recommendations?
I want to call the seller and a transport company tonight.

Emailed the seller. We have enough saved total to make this happen. :-)

Oh, that is gorgeous! Opponaut Nakazoto has one, though his is slightly later than that
! He almost never posts here anymore, but I am sure he would be more than happy to help anybody if someone here got it!
He restored his when he lived in Japan and imported it to Texas when he and his wife moved back to North America a few years ago!

Less rare in Canada. They sold about 6,000 in Canada with some of the later ones being built in Northern Nova Scotia (I forget the town at the moment.) These were never sold in the U.S. Isuzu imported 300 Bellels in 1961. They should have imported Bellett 1500s starting in 1963 followed by larger engine models later as it was a great small car for the U.S. market, but they did not.

Two words: Do it.
Shipping might cost as much as the car, but still worth it.

I emailed the seller this morning. Working to make it happen. Figuring out the shipping may be the hardest part. I will try and get at least 3 quotes.

Wow, so you really are going to do it. Cool! Car is in a low rust area too, I guess this could be the one. I’d even offer to help as it is probably just over a couple hours from me, but the borders are effectively closed. Cars of Fort Langley might be able to help, or gmctavish himself, both who live in that area.

There are some airports where that might not be a big deal farther away from cities where there is more hangar space available, but that attitude of the pilots is pretty understandable as its common for small airports have years long waiting lists for hangar space. Using that limited real estate for something completely non-aviation related would definitely strike some nerves

The wife said now is not the time. It would be all our savings when my pay and hours are cut 20%. Also that is a good point the boarders are kind of closed. Idk? I am still going to double check my savings and finish cleaning the garage out for the car.

I suspect if you bought it, the seller might hold it for awhile and store it for a nominal fee, or maybe a local oppo could give up a garage spot for a few months.
Two schools of thought - happy wife, happy life, or no wife, happy life. Pros and cons to both. Gotta find a way to spin it to her , the chance of a lifetime or something.

I am indeed localish, however the border is closed to non-essential travel. Shipping it across may be possible, but I imaging pricing won’t be great right now. I don’t have any shipper recommendations I’m afraid

The wife said no. I have more saved then I thought I had, but it is still not enough.

Ah that’s too bad. Now isn’t the best time for much spending anyways, I’m trying to take it easy in case I’m out of work for a while once the government wage subsidy is up

There may be some of those, but the “hobby” is a lot like golf these days— with the high costs and rising average age of the enthusiasts, well, bo th are rich, retired guys’ sports for the most part. Even here in SoCal I notice that certain airports have sets of hangars that seem to be “on the market” for years with no takers. That’s not universally the case, obviously... and with the locals intent on closing Santa Monica and Van Nuys (eventually) I suppose it drives the remaining pilots further and further from LA out to the regional airports that were on my list . But, I can get you into as many hangars at Fox this afternoon as you’d care to rent... just don’t bring any Ferraris or Porsches.

Away from populated areas might be fine. Fox is over an hour away from LA in no traffic. I’m talking about airports that are near metro areas, that is where it might be contentious, and that is why they have those rules in most cases. There is a reason there is an attitude about it. Think of it from the aircraft owner’s point of view. Think of it like the feeling that you might get if you were living at a complex that has a some garages available to rent, not enough for all the residents though. Let’s say you bought a nice car, or maybe a classic you are working on, and you’d like to keep it in one of those garages, but they are currently all being rented and there is a wait list to get one. There are some garages that will be available to rent at another building, but you still have to wait a few months , and you’d have to walk 15 minutes to get to the garage from your apartment. Then you walk by one of the garages one day and see that someone is just using as a storage unit for stuff they don’t have room for in their apartment. In my area this is a pretty accurate representation of the situation. The two main metro GA airports have waitlists. Farther out (45) minute drive or so, there are 4 airports that may or may not have hangar space available at any given time. Drive an hour and there is pretty good availability. But then you have the guys that are local to those far away airports that are upset the rental rates are being driven up by people coming out from the city.

Oh, I get it but there’s still a heavy air of “entitlement” in all this, right? Bruce and Arnie were both neighbors in Sun Valley and they are both gonna hate it when Santa Monica closes, as seems pretty certain. They both commuted for years SUN-SMO.
But these facilities are all HEAVILY subsidized by the local, state and federal governments. So, it seems a little weird that ALL the taxpayers get to subsidize these small airports (I think the lack of an actual business case is what finally caused the City of Santa Monica to move to close SMO)... but only the “right kind of taxpayer” gets to buy/lease/rent the space, even when there are higher-and-better uses. And, generally a shortage of all sorts of commercial properties in LA and Ventura county.
I’ve been in and out of Camarillo’s facility a lot and they are certainly “aviation uses only may apply” but also have had a lot of hangars on the market for a very long time. With all the Ventura County money flowing to prop it up, it seems a little weird to self-select uses- but the whole vibe out there is like “private boys club”. They even hate it when the County takes KIA and Hyundai’s money to park the thousands of unsold inventory (it’s only 10 minutes from the port that handles them) on all the vacant land.
Compounding all the weirdness, naturally, is that Camarillo was actually an Air Force Base originally... given to the locals by the feds as a public use facility.
I’d expect to see a lot more closures or “re-thinks” on this in the coming decades, as the gravy train starts to grind to a halt.
