Sometimes, when life gets chaotic, I like to unwind by going out and doing some bird watching. Here we see a male and female hepatic tanager, so-called because... um... they tanage hepatics? Wait, no, it’s because hepatic means “liver-colored”. Which kind of ignores the fact that the females are yellow, but whatever... They’re still quite the cute couple!
In this second picture, we see a painted bunting. They’re the pop singers of the bird world, in that they look absolutely beautiful, but actually have somewhat mediocre singing voices.
Here’s an American goldfinch. So-called because of its affinity for beer, trucks, country music, and electing bad presidents erm, baseball! You can tell that this one is a male because the females are just brown.
Here we see a Thunderbird in its natural habitat! Manufactured by Ford from 1955 to 2005, these... Wait a minute...
Here’s that cute hepatic tanager couple again! And this time there’s a blue jay in the background as well! And... Wait, is that blue jay holding a meat cleaver? What is it doing? Did I just become a witness to something!?
Moving on... Here’s the American goldfinch again. This is the last time we’ll be seeing him, because shortly after this photo was taken, I implied that apple pie isn’t the greatest dessert ever, and he called me a communist and flew away in a huff.
Next up, we have... (sigh) Not this again! Get out, stupid Thunderbird! Go!
Phew, it looks like the hepatic tanagers managed to escape the knife-wielding blue jay. Good for them. I wonder what happened to the blue jay, anyway...
Oh, there it is. It’s just watching. Always watching...
This bush sure seems popular with the birds! The blue jay even seems to be calming down in this bush. How nice. In fact, I think I hear another one coming, and...
Ah, crap. Why, Thunderbird? WHY!?
I mean, honestly...

Love it! I got the painted bunting, and I knew the red one was a tanager, but I didn’t get to hepatic tanager. I have spotted painted buntings, scarlet tanagers, and summer tanagers in the wild. Haven’t had an American goldfinch at my feeder in quite some time, though. We have had some lesser goldfinches in the past.
Nice work!

Thanks! Hepatic tanagers are some of my favorite birds , since both the males and females of the species are brightly-colored and very pretty. Strangely, though, nobody studies them. It’s not even a particularly rare bird or anything like that, people just don’t study hepatic tanagers. It’s weird.

Once again you manage to make me laugh instead of do work (my fault for being on Oppo, but. . .). I think the other birds are joyriding your T Bird.
