The Mercedes W123 is strong with this one...
Turning a EUDM Granada into a ‘compact’ is funny though. This was considered a huge ship of a car in Europe.

Would have been way better than the Versailles.
GM considered turning the Opel Diplomat into a new, small Cadillac around the same time, but it would have needed too much reengineering to work with the looser assembly tolerances at US plants.

Its a lot smaller than a current Fusion/Mondeo, so compact even by modern standards.

Cars have grown a lot since then. And i t’s still a lot larger than a modern compact, but yes a Fusion/Mondeo is larger on the outside. One of the reasons the Fusion/Mondeo was selling poorly in Europe was the size though; it had gotten too big.

It is also a bit smaller than the last Dodge Dart though, and that was firmly a compact
