New tubes, tires, and pedals. Need to replace the bar tape but that’ll have to wait.
I like my cruiser but this is a much better choice if I’m going more than a couple miles.

better choice if I’m going more than a couple miles.
That looks like a serious set up for going more than a couple of days.
Interesting setup. Steel frame with bar ends and road bars with 29 x 2.1" tires? Mix of new and old is confusing - the bar ends, XT crank and disc brake frame.
I’ve been looking at a new bike in the gravel category. I’d like disc brakes, 32-47mm tires and a low gear of 30x34 with a Shimano GRX group. Goal is mainly road with comfort. Steel would be nice.
I’ve got those pedals on my mtn bike: Race Face Chesters? But your bike looks set up for gravel. I’d think clipless pedals would be more efficient for that.
What brand and model is the bike
? Seat, high stem/handlesbars looks set up for comfort.

Yep, the Chesters. C lipless are more efficient but I have a hard time finding shoes in general that fit my heels and finding bike shoes is ten times worse. I wear Puma skate shoes with these and it’s so much more comfortable!
I don’t remember the logic on the bar end shifters. I know when Salsa first came up with this idea they had a hard time finding parts that let them combine drop bars and wider tires and that was the best solution? I think a lot of folks have swapped them out but I’ve had this bike so lo ng I don’t even think about it anymore.

Awesome! Barcons!
I took this pic last night as I was getting ready for another session with Zwift. I’m having issues with my clipless pedals and will be going back to bear traps tomorrow. My frame is disc ready, but I haven’t made the switch yet.

A more recent alternative to Smobgirl’s bar ends are the thumbie b rifters from Gevena lle. They work very nicely on my Niner RLT and offer the advantage of being relatively cheap AND being able to function with wide range Shimano MTB derailleurs... potentially you could run 11-52 out the back!

Those are really n
eat. Clever and look cool.
But
I’m going to go with the standard
brifters on the next bike
. I’m not wedded to
shifters - my road bike currently has Shimano 600EX Arabesque downtube shifters. Th
ose
brake hoods have the
old-school profile.
I spend 95% of the time with hands on the brake hoods. What I like about brifters is the wide body and knob which basically turns them into little bullhorn handlebar extensions.
I initially
thought brifters
were ugly but now
I’m swayed by the comfort.

Agreed... funnily enough though, these levers (from TRP) are more comfy than they look. The hydraulic brake versions are based on the TRP Hylex brake lever which is fatter again.
I still have Suntour Sprint down tube shifters on my road bike...and that will never change.

Heads up REI is clearing out women’s PI X-Alp Flow flat MTB shoes - you might want to give these a shot if they have your size. My wife just grabbed a pair. My wife and I both have Chesters on our bike. Great pedals - but a good pair of mountain flats really does help. I rode in skate shoes and indoor soccers shoes for a while until I picked up a pair of 5.10's on sale on a whim and won’t go back - they fit a lot like skate shoes but are stiffer for more efficient pedaling and have more toe protection.

Also, r eally n ice bike . Last year I spent several days bikepacking in South Texas and one of the guys in our crew had a very similar Salsa - it soaked up the miles really well and was pretty much bulletproof.
I’ve run those WTB Nanos in the past - great rolling/handling tire but unless they changed the inner layers, they puncture easily. I recommend carrying a spare tube or at least a patch kit if you spend much time on anything beyond pavement or gravel with them .

Thanks for the heads up! I haven’t had much luck with their shoes in the past but with REI’s return policy it’s worth a shot. Most of the common brands of flats are out - 5.10s don’t even come close to fitting me.
I’ll keep that in mind on the tires. I just grabbed these a couple weeks ago because they were on sale and the WTB whatever’s-came-on-it were starting to dry rot.
