s o these are the cam shaft position sensors. Since I had a historic fault, i thought I’d replace these at the same time as the failing oil pan. If this doesn’ t work, I’m just going to drop it off somewhere.

What about the cam phasers? Have you already replaced those? That will definitely cause issues. If the sensors are bad, I would think you would get an implausible signal error or some intermittent fault that popped up time and again. But I assume the cam sensors are relatively inexpensive so not a bad idea. But my money is on the cam phasers being plugged up with debris. Might be able to remove and clean them, but I don’t know about that. I’ve always just replaced them if needed.  Either way, you’ve come this far, you can’t give up now :).  But I can relate.  I had to punt my S8 misfires to a shop that found a larger issue that I would have not found with my line of diagnosis.  So I get it, but you got this.

If it doesn’t work, you know what to do.

I do pretty well following instructions and repairing just about anything. I’m not so good with diagnosis. If I can’t figure something out, I’ve paid a shop $50, $75 for the diagnosis and then did the repair myself.

Then I know it was done correctly, got some degree of satisfaction, and still saved some money.

A friend with an 2013 Acura MDX got a cylinder 4 misfire and really rough running. The Acura dealer said he’s got a rodent nest and chewed up injector 4 wires which they will be happy to fix for $2800.

I think they were scamming him on the charge. Their diagnosis was correct . Internet says reasonable charge for injector replacement is $800-900. He bought a new Acura harness online for $150 and replaced it himself.

just a quick search makes replacing those look like a nightmare . I hope this does it.

Oh gotcha, I figured it was similar to the GMs where they are right up top.  I guess VAG doesn’t corner the market on engineering out the DIY repairs.

Honestly, with the repair I need to do to my Audi, it’s only because I’m an honest person that mine doesn’t look like that photo right now.  Those high pressure fuel systems are tricky sometimes and you know when they leak....

i’m not really sure where they are, but i did a qwuc k search and all the images showed timing chains and other internal parts you dont want to ever have to see.
