I had a friend in high school who bragged about speeding down country roads at 100mph.

As I told him at the time: I don’t give a rat’s ass if you kill yourself being stupid, but you’re going to kill someone else doing that.

“Investigators say both he and his passenger were wearing their seatbelts, but were ejected out the rear window and landed more than 100 feet away.”

How does that happen??

This is why I’ve chosen to keep my kids away from fast cars and why they have no hopes of ever driving my WRX. Autocross or on a track, maybe. On the streets, no.

I did enough stupid stuff in my first truck with just 86hp on tap. Thank God my mom told me no to every stupid want I had as a kid.

Yeah, has to be

Or modified rails to lower the seat, I've heard people do that

A ton of energy at 85-100 mph, combined with the fact cars aren’t really designed to hit a solid object at that speed while going backwards.

Kinja'd!!!

And of course there’s the possibility they weren’t wearing the belts properly, bystanders (who were presumably involved in the race) lied about the seat belts, the car may have been modified in ways that reduced their effectiveness (though it looks reasonably stock at a glance), or that some bit of seat or belt hardware just failed.

There’s a reason race cars use five point harnesses.

We don’t see any headrests in the picture so the seats or their mounting definitely gave up.

But how on earth did the trunk’s outer surface managed to detach from the rest? The n astiest explanation could be that the flying occupants caught the front edge of the trunk and managed to peel off the outer surface. It’s very surprising that the passenger managed to survive.

Integra/civic seats arnt strong at all, they will fold back under a decent force.   My 96 civic seat fell a few notchs back when I was rear ended.

And this is why the kids will end up doing stupid stuff lol, if you never let them learn responsibly then they wont. Whats wrong with letting them drive the WRX while you’re in it? Big difference between that and buying your kid a Coyote Mustang for high school to go crash.

As a kid who’s dad always had nice cars that I couldn’t drive and he wouldn’t teach me manual on I can tell you I prob would’ve done a lot less dumb things if he actually taught me how to drive manual and told me the dumb things not to do when driving a sports car. Instead he never would and I ended up buying my own cars, first a Corvair (which scared the crap out of my parents because of the safety stuff its known for ) and then a BMW that I later crashed on an icy road with an open diff and oversteer.
