Very. Although I think he might be happier resting on my keyboard (he tried).

Interesting choice for your layout. I’m currently repairing MXDs which were originally created back in 2016 whose home project folders have been archived. This is the joy I’m living today.

After I get the data relocated to the current project folder, I will bulk edit the broken links to make the repairs. I LOVE using model builder for repetitive tasks. Once the maps are fixed, we have to report on findings by council district. I’ll make some minor tweaks to a model I built for doing structure estimates by watershed.

I don’t have the nice view that you have, but I have three monitors!

Ours does the same, though she is in her sleeping box under a chair in one of the bedrooms at the moment taking her evening snooze, lol

Say that again, but in English.

Paraphrasing: I’m focusing on everything but that pool because I’m focused on that pool instead of anything else in your or my own work life.

I wish I was working in ArcMap! This is Petra (and my dual monitors are still at work). I’m editing plats for a corporation commission hearing, and drafting in this program is absolutely brutal...

Model Builder looks like a lot of fun, and that one’s pretty impressive , but I haven’t mess with it outside of an academic setting.

He did! And so did the kids, for a short time. Water’s still pretty chilly!

Slowly working my way up to that. Still on cat #1 (and spouse #1).

Editing sucks in pretty much all GIS software. CAD is a much better editing environment. Of course, CAD can’t do the analysis, so there will always be a need for both.

I’ve built some 100+ step models. I can’t emphasize enough how useful and powerful python programming and model builder are for streamlining workflows.

I’ve never used Petra. When I was teaching, I taught the entry level course and final GIS courses. Another professor explored alternative programs in the intermediate courses. I know he taught FGIS, but I’m not sure what else they explored.

Petra is oil & gas specific - it h as a geological interpretation module built in.

It’s probably some form of Kriging model. Is it using data from test bores?

There are all kinds of different contouring methods available in Petra’s maps (different methods work better for different data: structure, thickness, production, etc.), but I’m talking about a cross-section module - a vertical section plane (or slice) of the subsurface. Allows our geologists to view and interpret well log data, pick formation tops in order to map structures and thicknesses (isopachs), select net “pay” (sand/reservoir ), identify faults, and create displays to help understand what’s going on a mile plus underground.

If someone built a cross-section interpretation plugin specifically for ArcMap that works as seamlessly as the one in Petra (and other G&G software), they’d be able to make some serious money...

Hmmm. I built a model in ArcMap t o interpolate soils from borings taken to determine subsurface conditions under an existing levee system. We were contracted to do the design work for increasing the levee height. The geotech lead started off working in Civil3D, but his team wasn’t making much headway. I could hear him yelling at his team and offered to assist. Half an hour later, he had a rough map of the boring locations on top of the topo and SSURGO soils data - the thing he’d been waiting on for over a month . After a few more basic mapping tasks, w e started working together on the subsurface analysis from the boring data. He had the geotechnical expertise; I had the right tools and understood how to use them. :D

Nice! It’s also so fun to quickly solve a problem for someone who’s been struggling with something for way too long. As more and more data is converted to digital, it becomes easier to build things like this to work with ArcMap, but some data in the geo world is still only available in a B&W raster image scanned from an old paper well log. Petra allows you to integrate this historical data with modern digital (LAS) logs into one usable presentation for interpretation, analysis, and creating displays.
