Because the sun in an ever present oppressive orb of oppression in the sky in Southern NM, sun shades are important and I’ve found good , custom fit to be worth the money. I ordered a custom cut set from Covercraft for the Pajero and the Jag. I even got one with a light green color to the reflective side for the Pajero.
I placed this order a little over a month ago right before things started shutting down in the Southwest, so I wasn’t surprised when I got emails about how they’d be made when the pandemic was over and that the company busy retooling and making PPE gowns and whatnot in the interim. That sounded fine, so I told them to keep the order on the books and bill my card whenever things went back to normal someday. I survived fine enough with a cheapo, generic folding shade.
I was a bit surprised to see them sitting by the front door when I went home for lunch with the doggos. On some level I’m
glad th
ey’re here and whatnot, but I have questions. Unless the pan
demic is over
in AZ where they’re based,
I feel pretty confident that making custom sun shades and floor mats isn’t an essential endeavor. I think I’d rather them make PPE, or have had folks stay at home. I didn’t need nice sun shades that badly...

Old Camaro parts certainly aren’t. I ordered some patch panels from Classic Industries a couple of weeks ago and they haven’t shipped yet. I thought that was going to be the case so I’m not upset about it but they really should take down the banner on their site that says they’ve resumed shipping.

Our governor issued a “stay at home order”. The list of businesses forced to shut down their premises to the public is pretty narrow. A lot of manufacturing is allowed to stay open if they aren’t open to the public. According to the Covid map, there have been 6-10 confirmed cases in my neighborhood.

I always get the silver board custom shades, have to, I’m a lunatic. I get the Covercraft too . I put the shade in when I run into the store every time. I have this vision of a perfect dash with no cracks years from now. My W123 has some minor cracking by the climate control sensor, but it’s good other than that. Whenever I get a new car I order one.

I fully agree semi-custom fold-able sunshades are crucial in areas of intense summer sun/heat. I started for both vehicles when we lived in CO and have kept up the trend in CA.
Some companies are able to practice social distancing in a factory environment and still keep busy. Not all businesses are able to take orders and retool for PPE.

I served in the US Army at Fort Polk, Louisiana, in the mid-80s. My car was a ‘76 Chevy Nova with a three-on-the-tree that had been moved to a floor shift before I bought it. The shift knob was the big aluminum Hurst job, and in the Summer, I’d get into the car in the afternoon and you’d burn your hand if you touched the shift knob, and I was thinking, What kind of s**t is this?
Yes. Sun screens are a must, even in more temperate climes.

I never knew how nice a custom sunshade could be until I had my C30. It had aluminum on the steering wheel and the top of the gear shift. In the summer they would get so hot it burned your hands. The AC ducting also ran directly under the giant black dashboard which made cooling the car after 8 hours in the sun something of a challenge. Not only did it have to cool the c abin, it had to first cool the dashboard. That shade was a lifesaver. But so was swapping out the gear shift for the lower spec model that was made of leather and plastic as God intended.

I orders some clothes from my favorite company which was having a sale. This was March 30th. The stuff should be arriving Friday. Took a few weeks to even get notice that they had received and processed the order.

Same. New car always equals ordering new sun shades.
