I [heart] thunderstorms.

Have always loved sitting on the front p orch with my dogs as a thunderstorm rolls in and over. The dog I had as a kid was an escape artist, so this was the only way she’d hang out with me outside without a leash. The sights, sounds, smells and “feels” of a good storm are hard to beat.

The kids wanted to put on their rain jackets to go get the mail. In the clear now for a bit; birds are chirping again. Kids took off their jackets and found a ball and bat. Dog went inside; cat just walked up for some attention.

We just had one roll across our house about 20 minutes ago. Got a little pea-sized hail as a bonus. But I’m with you. I love sitting on my porch during a good storm, preferably while smoking a cigar. I’ve given those up, though.

I’ve got pictures of my kids outside in a storm. One time, we called it “umbrella practice” and they’re all standing out at the curb watching the water run down the gutter. Another time they went outside in just their pajama pants and got thoroughly soaked. Good times.

That sounds heavenly.

Down here, it’s just dark and drizzly.

I miss screened-in porches. Wonderful for thunderstorms.

Our weather here hasn’t been warm enough yet to have one. My apartment has windows facing all four directions (perks of living in a tower) and we’re the tallest thing for quite a ways , so there’s always a good view.

As I kid I loved sitting on our screened in porch during storms, and to the extent possible, I like to keep the windows opening during them now (sort of hard when most of my current “windows” are skylights.)

Glad it was just pea-sized! I love a good cigar, but hate it the next morning. Been a while.

Haha! That’s awesome. My little guy got soaked running around the yard when the rain came back.

Funny how everything looks greener just after a rain.

When I was a teen, we had a dog that was specifically frightened by the thunder.  It was the only thing that scared her.  We would put her in the basement for the duration and that calmed her greatly.

I’d have a bunch of windows open right now, but Mrs. addiction doesn’t like being chilly...

I dislike the friends they bring along. Also one of my dogs is manically afraid of thunder because of course he is.

It’s mostly just because the light is “better”. When the sun is shining, it’s so bright that colors get washed out (think of photos taken at mid day). Just after a storm, it’s still kind of cloudy, but the sun’s shining enough to brighten things up, so everything just looks brilliant. I distinctly remember being on a long drive in the middle of nowhere KS, and storm clouds rolled in. It was a massive system and I was in the middle of it , but it hadn’t “broken” yet and started raining. It was near sunset, so the sun was shining brightly under the clouds, and my visibility seemed to go on forever in all directions. The colors of the green crops against the golden sun and purple-blue clouds were other worldly. Stunningly gorgeous. Wish I could’ve captured it in 4K video to share, but my mind still has it as clear as day (and in general my memory sucks).

I feel so sorry for dogs that have that fear - glad you had a basement for her.

I really dig the stone pillars, and what’s that green stuff on the ground everywhere? I’m not familiar with it, but it looks lovely ;)

Is that today? How big? We didn’t get any, but glad I pulled the truck in anyway.

Need to finally get that storm shelter. Sounds like it’s going to be a busy season this year.

Sorry you’ve got a nervous pup... Put him in a kennel covered with a big, bulky blanket, maybe?

England: It rains a lot!

*1 inch falls steadily over 22 hours; people annoyed *

Southeastern US : It rains a lot!

*5 inches fall in an hour; flooding and tornadoes *

Thanks, I really love our home... It’s ridiculous how inexpensive property is in OK is compared to CA. We’re very fortunate

We’ve got plenty of green stuff to spare!

This past year has been crazy. We average a little over 40" a year here. We got almost 80" this year!

Kansas has a weird way of being really pretty at sunrise/sunset, and boring the rest of the time.

Same, our boxer hates thunder, the Mastiff does not care what is happening as long as she is near one of us.

Yup!  Right around 9AM.  Average was between golf ball and quarter. No damage that I’ve seen but I also haven’t looked very hard.
