Wait-a-minute....ENHANCE

Kinja'd!!!

Huh....Joni Mitchell wrote This Flight Tonight.

I wonder who was the genius who heard Mitchells version and came up with adding a simple driving, galloping beat to turn it into a Rock classic ?

Props for Nazareth deep cuts. Seriously underrated these days. Another excellent Nazareth-covering-somebody-else is of course Morning Dew.

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

(Also good in extended single and Beat Club versions)

Edit: not good in the short version I initially posted. Oops.

I was surprised when I first learned that Joni Mitchell wrote Woodstock. I always thought it was a CSN song. I really like Mitchell’s version better. It sounds more plaintive, written by somebody who wished they could have been there.

Like me.

Morning Dew and Beggars Day both by excellent writers.  I’m seeing a theme.

She’s a musicians musician for sure. I remember as a kid watching her  performance of White Lines in The Last Waltz thinking “what the hell is this?”.  I have a better appreciation for what her IT is.

I particularly like how incredibly, absurdly doomy Morning Dew is. Takes the mournfulness of the folky original, and just turns it into a sludgy thing, blacker than black.

Crazy (A Suitable Case For Treatment) also rocks out loud.

That appreciation comes with age and experience. She was wise beyond her years, as many great poets and artists were. The poetry of Woodstock, and the way she paces and spaces the words, is extremely powerful. And her vocal range is amazing.

I was thinking that some Clive Davis level A&R guy at A&M was feeding Nazareth these songs but, from what I’ve read, they were just fans of the songs they covered.  Can you see those guys driving around in their van listening to Blue?

For sure. Her cadence  is unmistakable.

Free a few days ago...Nazareth today.  I’m primed for seeing a Foghat post in a few days.  Or at least Black Oak Arkansas.

My most vivid memory of Foghat was the fact that their Chu-Bop was always the only one left in the display at the corner store .
