Well, it’s an interesting idea. But I can only imagine how gross those things would get in short order. You know people will rest their head/face on them when they fall asleep.

Good idea, but already wrong. They just need a single divider panel between each seat, not an individual bubble thingy for each seat. The individual bubble means redundant panels which adds weight, which equals money for an airline.
It’s also wrong because it needs to go all the way down to the arm rest to keep people the F$@^)@#$ out of my seat space!

Elegant, probably beautifully made if it ever came to fruition but so impractical that it must be Italian design.
All I see is a stylish obstacle that impedes an already difficult journey from the aisle to the window seat...

What I learned from flying in the 80s is that the smoking section only requires a little sign on the seatback to separate everyone. Just like how some fake plants in a restaurant can separate the two areas.
Boy, I do not miss the mass acceptance of smoking in society...

Well, something to look forward to in a couple of years, when we can all travel again, I guess.

I’m sure the airlines would love a product that increases weight, increases cleaning costs, and probably means they have to keep seats fa rther apart to comply with FAA evacuation requirements.
Or alternatively, if they are really concerned that people will feel unsafe flying, they could just throw a cheap paper mask in the seatback pocket.

In VA you can still smoke in bars (or you could as of a couple years ago) as long as it’s only a bar and not mixed used bar/restaurant . There was a place by my apartment that had a sign out front that simply said “Pub”. I’d never been in it and shortly before I moved I decided I would try it since I’d passed by a million times. The smoke was so thick I think it was starting to solidify. It was so weird, like being transported back to a different age.

I didn’t even consider the safety/evac requirements, good thinking.

When I was in high school and early college , you could smoke in the mall food court (at one mall) and EVERYWHERE in our other mall. Literally just smoking a cigarette, ashing it on the carpet, then putting it out in an ashtray next to the rest benches and walking into KB Toys to check out N64 and PlayStation games.
It all changed almost overnight, right about the time cigarettes went up 2-3x in price. I went into a Buffalo Wild Wings about 5-6 years ago and couldn’t even remember the last time I had smelled smoke in a restaurant.

Hell with that, just give us all individual pods like on the B-58 and XB-70:

I remember people smoking in one of our malls as well. Like you said, ash trays right next to the rest benches. Its weird because I remember it being pretty prevalent and now I barely know anyone who does. I think it’s a combination of price and the fact that it’s so damn inconvenient most places . We aren’t allowed to smoke anywhere on-site at work, and my building is far enough in that you’d have to get in a car and drive out the gate to go have a smoke and then drive back.

Same here. I used to a little bit when I was in the Navy, but that was only when I could go outside and do it at the smoke pit. The idea of doing it in a confined space grossed me out.

That’s why they have to invent ‘sleep regulators’ like in The 5th Element first.
