Miata dream . . . weird

This morning I awoke from a dream where I had a Miata. It seemed to be a really nicely modded NA with very special taillights that I’m not sure exist in reality .

Kinja'd!!!

It was a complicated dream in that I was trying to sell the car to a garage (presumably that specialized in Miatas) but didn’t have the time for them to inspect it carefully, and I also didn’t have an aftermarket sway bar that apparently I was throwing into the deal. So I drove off with the top down, then encountered rain (in real life it had begun raining outside) and tried to put the top up while driving slowly. But that was difficult one-handed, and then I felt claustrophobic with it over me . . . and then I woke up to loud rainfall against the house .

I’m pretty sure that I don’t want an old Miata, especially since I was trying to sell it in the dream, but apparently it is on my mind. Weird.

I dare say, almost all of us who like driving, on a deep subconscious level at a minimum, want an old Miata.

Front of brain, I don’t want one. I simply won’t fit and it’d be frustrating to hack up the interior to try to make me fit. Subconsciously? Heck yeah man.

Drove my friend’s NB for 15-20 minutes. I want to understand it, but I just don’t. I guess I just like understeering into ditches too much.

Interesting subconscious choice. I don’t think these even had that powerful of an engine, did they? Let’s 270 hp or 295 hp . . . not bad, but I’m sure these weighed a ton.

I have random dreams where I own an EVO 8 or 9 and it somehow always goes wrong. Probably because I've considered them several times and always back out.

I nearly landed in a ditch a few times with my NB. (Shitty tires on 17s). You can replicate this experience!

10/10 would purchase another one.

They seem like decent cruisers. I don’t know how reliable they are. I’m pretty sure the flavor of Northstar these got had too fine threads for the head bolts and they’d pull threads from the block out when the bolts left. The GM TSB for that issue was a time-sert, but the real fix is LS4 head studs (which later motors got), but that’s an engine-out affair.

Right, but I enjoy the thrill I get when I chuck my car into a corner and the front wheels start to plow, the fear really gets that serotonin flowing, ya know?

Ha. I’ve tested the ND , it is a nice, easy top, although I still don’t know that I’d want to put it up while also watching the road. And I didn’t feel claustrophobic, although there isn’t any room for anything in the car. It was fine, but I wasn’t sold.

A (theoretical) cheap NA (I am led to believe that there really aren’t any good and cheap NAs anymore) that sits around for weekend use might have some appeal, which explains the dream, but I would rather just have fun with my DD GTI. In a couple of years I may replace the GTI with something rear wheel drive, but I’d still like a nominal back seat for dog, so still no MX-5.

I wish my dreams were that simple , or even that short. I tend to dream in trilogies for some reason and you would need to involve the Game Theorists to figure them out. I would love to take the Miata off your hands though :)

I am 79 yrs old, and every night I go to sleep thinking about where Miata, Poo kie ( terrier) and I are going tomorrow. Bodega Bay, Russia n River valley, or maybe just twist our way up R t. 1 to Ukiah. Wherever, it will be the best day ever, till the next.

I would love to drive one but I'm 6' 1” but with most of my height in my torso, and short legs. So when I've sat in one at the showroom my head brushes the top and my eyes are looking out just barely below the top of the windshield.

I’ve read two different articles where the Miata was compared to way more expensive cars, the current Mustang, and even a McLaren supercar where they raced each other at legal speeds on a 100 mile journey. Despite the lack of power the Miata could keep up with the supercar, and was balls of fun to drive. The M ustang was criticized for being uncommunicative and boring to drive. The McLaren perhaps no complaints, but the $ 35k Mazda was still very fun at 1/20th of the price.

I recently had a dream where my sister and I invented a flying white Jeep Cherokee XJ that also had the ability to shrink for some reason. It looked pretty much like this:

Kinja'd!!!

In the dream, we were trying to present the Jeep to several investors, although the Jeep had been experiencing a number of problems the day before. With the investors riding in the back seat, my sister and I took them on a flight over S outh America, because why not, I guess? And the whole time, we were trying to diagnose and fix the numerous electrical problems the Jeep was experiencing while flying hundreds of feet above the forest canopy. Luckily, the investors were blissfully oblivious of the Jeep’s numerous mechanical maladies, which constantly threatened to end the flight dramatically. They simply stared out the windows hooting and hollering with glee, enjoying the novelty of a flying Jeep. The biggest scares were when the shrinking technology started acting up, and I think a bird may have nearly ended us... We did eventually manage to get the investors back home safely, where they enthusiastically agreed to fund further development of the flying Jeep technology. M y sister and I ended up agreeing, though, that until the Jeep had been significantly updated, we were never flying it again!

I think that your dream has a lot more to theorize about and analyze beyond car interests than mine did . . . I’m guessing that life was a bit unstable at the time of the dream?

Plus, why use a capable 4x4 for a flying vehicle, taking it completely out of its element? I guess if you were forced to land in the jungles of South America you would probably be able to drive out!

My comment is a bit drawn out, but hear me out. I’ve owned and driven american and foreign, going years back. As of the last 10 yrs, main drivers were chevy’s, an old Astro (spacious faux commercial vehicle) and a 2015 equinox, nothing special. Although the new outta the box, the Eq drove well (safe, convenient, no power) , no one wants to walk into a room sporting an equinox jacket, right? Moving-on, my family car was a 2017 Nissan Murano (I used to dislike the older models) but this one had full a sport package loaded, etc, enjoyable for work commute, shopping, plus long and short trips.

Who wants an old cramped-up car? Hmm, well, here’s the trade-off: after driving ok cars with a real purpose, feels good to drive with enthusiasm... see, without any mods, a miata is a delight to drive (period). Think of the fun you had as a kid tryingt push a motor go-cart beyond its limits, then add power, some style and a license plate... its the most fun you can have legally and park it goodnight until the next time you have a driving itch.

I own a 1990 mazda miata, no “real mods” and its an xbox toy gone alive. Granted, I would gladly admit there are plenty of other cars that look cooler, drive well, are much faster plus could make for better driveway projects, but I have zero mechanical issues with this car, from brakes, clutch, motor, transmission, gear box, and steering.. its dependable and gets as practical as they come.

Red, aftermarket rims, lower suspension, new aftermarket softop, hardtop is in the garage, new audio w/bluetooth, 98k miles and al fun as hell!

Dream-on buddy, its not a bad thing!

That could be... Things do seem pretty crazy/hectic and uncertain to me right now, whereas other people in my life seem to be cheerfully confident that everything’s going to be okay... Like how the investors in the Jeep had no idea how everything was falling apart, and how frantic we were to try and fix it before it all came crashing down.

A s for the car of choice, I’m not sure why it was a white Jeep Cherokee... Maybe because I associate Jeep Cherokees with David Tracy, and I associate David Tracy with broken vehicle s? There’s probably more to it than that...

You’re hilarious talking about putting up the top while moving. But considering I’ve had plenty of dreams where I can fly, teleport, and be invincible it’s fine for some fantasy like that too! I could see doing it in an ND due to the single latch and the fitment and lack of flex. But in an NA/NB it’s a real workout even without moving. The real issue is I just leave the top down all day and only put it up overnight so with temperature change the vinyl tends to stretch and then shutting it can require some force. I once left it down for about I’d say 3 months straight (was parked indoors overnight and it’s socal so rain is rare) and boy did putting the top up take some effort.

Anyways, my point is that it would supremely suck to do while moving since it's like a two armed arched back maneuver while leveraging against the steering wheel and such. I've put it down at ~10mph without trouble but never tried up above zero.

I had a dream I sold my wife’s Sportwagen the other night. It was great.

Not that I hate that car, but I sold it for $22K which is what we paid for it
