MTOD just isn’t any fun any more. A year or two ago, it was fun and a little quaint. Now MTOD is chock full of cookie cutter, totally redundant programming. The shows that drew me in initially, Roadkill and Roadkill garage, are on a rear burner these days and Roadkill itself doesn’t do anything but destroy expensive parts and ruin cars. I’m out.
Watching Bad Obsession Motor Sport, Project Binky, instead.

I should probably do the same, and pretty much for the same reasons. There’s so much other good stuff out there that it doesn’t make a lot of sense to subscribe for the occasional viewing I do now, particularly when I get most of the content through my TV provider (albeit with commercials). I’ll probably cancel this and look at what other subscriptions I have that I’m not using, like Apple Music, and have enough to go commercial free on YouTube.
I have been streaming music from Google, commercial free, just by mentioning an artist to my smart speaker. The mixes are pretty good and I’ve learned of some music and artists I wasn’t familiar with by doing this. Yeah, it’s not as flexible as other services and usually has the same Playlist every time, but did I mention the commercials and the price?

I just watched a Dirt Every Day that was pretty good they built a bobbed, and boat sided humvee and tested to against a side by side. It was really just an ad for the new Polaris RZR but it was entertaining, and the truck they built was cool. But it also follows the same formula as all their other episodes. Rush through Building thing, go test it, probably fail. That does get boring after awhile.

I feel like I should re-subscribe: I really miss Dirthead Dave & Fred. It’s just hard to justify that much each month for one (well, two) shows.
On the other hand, it’s roughly one Big Mac meal , so I should stop whining.

Not only that, but the original quaint content has drowned in a see of crap with dull, shallow, vulgar people. And it’s all the same, all over produced. And in the surge of the past few months, the original shows Roadkill, Roadkill Garage and Hot Rod Garage have all but disappeared.

I did in order to have access to Roadkill and Roadkill Garage and, later, Hot Rod Garage, when each episode got released. Now, those original shows are lost and buried.

I’m getting good ROI from Spotify. My entire family uses it. Spotify has changed my music listening life. Significantly.

I’m not an off roader, but I’ve watched a few episodes of DED and it’s okay. But yeah, rush through the build and whatever.
Project Binky has been refreshing. And the hauler they’re building, Escargot.

One Big Mac
I felt the same, initially, when they were smaller. But the tidbits that I subscribed for are gone, and I get literally nothing from all the rest. And I subscribe to lots of other things that return much more value.

Yeah, I admit I didn’t look around much, but nothing else other than Freibu rger occasionally talking about something Jeep-related ever struck me as interesting.

It has definitely lost a lot of the appeal that it originally had. I miss the days on Roadkill of “this is what we’ve got, and we need to make it work.” Now it’s “we bought this old, dirty car, and we’ll see what happens when we throw $12,000 worth of free parts at it.”
I still enjoy Dirt Everyday and Hot Rod garage, but new episodes of the main shows that appealed to me are getting to be awfully too few and far between.

Haven't seen a new HRG episode in two months and the last one was boring and irrelevant.

I did the $2 per month for a year deal. So I paid $24 for 2020 and it’s there if I want it or not. They had some live streams of races when they happened which was nice and I watch some crazy past truck racing and such. Their live stream was awful quality though lol

Tony was the reason I watched. Most car show personalities annoy me. They come off “all knowing” in a preachy way, or seem to be bumbling idiots. If I wanna watch a bumbling idiot I can just take my own ass to my garage and get at it. Tony just seemed pleasant.

He was annoying early on, younger, and needing to prove himself. But I didn’t mind him and he had a great set of skills. Freiberger has gotten to be more jerky. Finnegan is off doing his own thing. My favorite personality has been Steve Dulcich.

For me, it was the removal of the old vintage racing backlogs as well as the stacks of old content they seemed to excise for more generic car building shows.

It’s disappointing. Plus, for me, all of that content has a certain rude vibe that I find offputting.

It’d be fine if any of them did anything different, but the basic formula of “Middle aged white men with tattoos and shitty haircuts drop V8s into things and rev motors” has been done and redone so many times with so little variation that I just can’t possibly care about any of them. I mean, how many times can you say “We know you liked gas monkey garage despite all logic saying you shouldn’t so let’s do it again and change NOTHING!” before you realize no one actually liked GMG to begin with?!?!?

Yeeeeaaahhhh......I have, and to keep it short, I find that series boring and overdrawn. It’s neat, but I can’t sit through a single episode without pausing, opening a new tab, and forgetting that I started it.

That’s fair. I nod off a bit sometimes as well while Nick fabricates ridiculous solutions to things. But I also learn a lot and get a lot of ideas from them. What strikes you as overdrawn, I’d probably describe as thorough and consistent and, if I’m honest, quite compelling for exactly that reason. They capture the experience of wrenching and fabricating in a very authentic way. Unlike the showmen on MTOD.
