My kid and I sacrificed our health, nay our very lives to venture on our bikes into post-apocalyptic East Dallas and bring you shut-ins something to amuse your starved brains.
And also we were bored.
Here are some things we saw. First up is this cute little Golf Cabriolet. The wheels are a departure, but I kinda like them.
Next is a Ranger that is obviously used for work.
And this is a wild bit of construction for you. At first, we thought it was a house with interesting attached garage, but then we saw that entire building is a garage. It has several bays and an upstairs. My daughter speculates those upstairs spaces are living quarters. I think those tall doors are for a boat. What do you think?
Next, we went by the former Scientology Center. They used to have recruiting seminars every Wednesday until they closed it ten or so years ago. It used to be in an old spanish colonial styled mansion that is now demolished. My daughter is right now looking up its history on the Web. There was nothing left to photograph except a couple of sheds that homeless might quarter in. At least I would if I were homeless.
That’s all. I had to come home because the tread of my front wheel is peeling off. Good thing I have that new Gatorskin to put on.

I think I want that garage. Like I told my real estate agent when I was shopping for a home, I needed a basement and a garage, with everything else being optional.
Priorities, man, prioriti es...

That is going to be one seriously difficult home to sell eventually. I would love to have that since those priorities are clearly in order.
Reminds me of how my friend’s family is going to try to sell a house soon that is exactly the sort of massive new construction rural house you might expect, except for the fact that is is essentially a duplex with a shared basement with a connecting door in between the two living rooms. Some modifications might be in order.

Definitely. Live in the garage, pay the mortgage by renting the house next to it.

My grandparents owned a duplex and used it in a weird way. They slept in the upper one, and mostly lived and cooked in the lower. I was left thinking duplexes are cool things to have.
And yes, these folks did what they did clearly out of love, not for resale. I don’t know them, but I like them.

Sometimes you have to admire a clear dedication to a specific purpose that flies in the face of the status quo. Building your house around your garages is hit or miss depending on the execution. Someone knocked down many homes to build poorly half-constructed garages for their hoarding habits near me and I do not admire them.

I hadn’t considered that option, but that’s a damn good idea.
One place I had looked at was owned by a former boss of mine. Two units in one, with a big detached garage. The second unit was for her mother, now deceased, but it would probably make good rental property. I’d rather not share any walls with anyone, however.
My favorite old house was one that my grandfather built. It started out as a simple L-shaped place on one lot, with an empty lot next door that he owned. Later he added a wing for his mother, making it U-shaped. After she moved out my sister and I would stay there, and it was like we had a whole house to ourselves. Someday I’d like to build a place similar to that - cool design, and lots of good memories.

I like that. Agreed, no sharing walls.

No, but this is sweet. Clearly well thought out.

Wait, I just realized with all those garages two old Kias still sit outside.

Which makes you wonder. Although, the garage may not be finished yet.
