The powered antenna on the E28 is broken. I don’t listen to music in the car and I don’t particularly care if I have working antenna. But I do have a hole that lets water into the car when it rains. Not that I drive it in the rain. I’m also not concerned with keeping it completely stock.
I could look around for a short stubby antenna that would fit, but what are the Oppopinions?

Make a start on a Safari build with a massive whip antenna that you tie down to the opposite bumper.

Remove it, clean it up, and cap it off.

Farscythe has the right idea if you truly dont radio. I made the mistake of turning on the radio in a carwash in my Volvo, and lost my motorised antenna, so i put in one of those swirled flexible shortys which did the job fine. You do you

Take it out and plug it with a rubber gromet like some else posted.

I had a similar problem with my Galant vr-4’s. Antenna. I let some black RTV take care of that. Altho I was lucky enough to have a black car that hid my “fix”.

Funny enough, I rebuilt the power ante nn a on the Pajero today. It’s a slightly fiddly job, but nothing is really all the complicated. Assuming it makes noise when it tries to work (i.e., the motor is good) these usually fail due to the mast breaking or the toothed nylon cable that drives the mast up and down breaking and/or the teeth wearing out. A replacement mast and cable are probably about $30 and a bit of your time if you’re inclined to preserve the power antenna function.
