EPIC. And picture perfect too. Appear to be no injuries and no damage. Dropped it right between the signs. Good thing there were no power lines.
Among all the pilots in my family for 70 years , the sole true emergency landing was my grandfather taking his Cherokee Six into a beach in NJ in the 60s. It was low tide and he was going to drop it onto the hard-packed sand, but a lone pedestrian showed up (probably texting or something) and he had to bank at the last moment and ended up in the dunes. No injuries, but total loss of the plane.

I think they look closer than they are.

I did. Pretty terrifying, really. And of course, some of those assholes brought their suitcases off the plane.

I imagine the stop in the dunes was much more abrupt than the one on the beach.

Just above the signs and r ight between the cars. Great flying.

If I recall the story, yep — it collapsed the gear and made that stop from ~50mph to zero a lot more abrupt and spun them around.
He had quite a bit of experience landing on beaches in the Bahamas (normally), which was not that unusual back in those days. A lot of smaller islands had no airstrips and that’s just what you did. Almost like a bush pilot.

I imagine you saw this. Somebody posted it on Oppo a couple of weeks ago. The DC-3 is such a boss.

Wow, amazing -- I had not seen that!

So much of Quebec driving is summarized by both videos.

Great representation of how large even a “small” aircraft is compared to normal vehicles. Good job pilot.

Cool, I’m going to send this to my grandpa’s friend who was a bush pilot in PNG. He has some interesting stories.

I always think to myself, just put it in the fields somewhere next to the highway, not on it. The reasoning here being that when you go fly as a pilot, you make a choice to put yourself at a certain amount of risk when you go flying and accept those risks. But in my opinion you have no right to put the drivers of the cars on the highway at risk when crap does hit the fan.
Happy it ended up well this time, but along that stretch of highway I saw a couple of at least halfway decent looking fields to put it down in instead...
