I’d probably put a badge like that on one if I had one. Just for shiggles (shits + giggles).

Haha I never see Cruzes modified in any capacity. I kind of like that, but I might have gone for a Powerstroke badge to annoy the loyalists. Or maybe swapped a Daewoo badge on from the car’s home market.
Somewhat unusually I think the Chevy front end was the best look for these.

Oh boy do they get ‘modified’. I’m sure there’s some people out there running cool auto-cross or other builds, but there’s a few of these near me with a wrap and a wing and big ol riiiiiiiiiimmmmms. I see them lots with rattle can tinted tail lights and typical teenager stuff too.

These are just starting to fall into the disposable cheap car role, especially the Eco trims, but given how unreliable the 1.4 turbo was over the 1.8 NA with identical hp (136), I suspect the LS trims are going to be the only ones left before too long. That said the Cruze is a terrible wannabe vape bro teenager car because it is safe, really slow, and understated. I love mine but it doesn’t even handle well for a com pact and is way less sporty than a Civic.

I mean - they did make those in Diesel briefly. I remember when they were announced, but they were preposterously expensive as I recall.

Now, IMHO, The more recent civics are terrible cars. I never knew that the cruise was a rebadged offshore offering, but I’m not surprised to learn that. When the new Corvette c8 came out, and everybody was talking about it, my standard joke was buying the Duramax option. but having said all of that, my understanding is that now there’s a hopped up Duramax 4-cylinder engine showing up and pickup trucks. My neighbor had a Duramax that he put 300,000 mi on and had to change the injectors like five times. Very expensive, very complicated project, replacing those things. But what this Cruze
really needs is smoke stacks.

They sold a Cruze diesel here again with the second generation, even available with the hatchback and manual. I’ve thought about trying to get one used, but I imagine they are super rare. My local dealership had one for a while a year or so ago when it was brand new.

And if it truly is one of the diesel Cruzes, that person must feel like they’re getting screwed over these days

The first gen Cruze is a fantastic car, but it is about as sporty as a damp slice of bread. The Cruze is just a small car that pulls the surprisingly effective hoax of pretending to be a big car. Somehow, it all works, but it just isn’t sporty.

The Cruze was designed by Daewoo and Opel but was always intended for the US market, though it got here a little later. A 4 cyclinder duramax Cruze would be stupid and silly but probably a lot of fun. Add some hood exit exhaust and you’re golden; not from a money making perspective but from a cool factor.

I’m just not sure diesel is any good of a thing on several levels. But I thought those badges were cute. I’d probably want Banks Power Pack badges as well.

That’s one of the most concise car reviews I’ve ever read. Now I’m curious to drive one.
I own a 2012 Nissan Versa, quite by accident, and it is really a very sensible car that’s pleasant to drive. Not without any pep, either, though not tons.

The badges are definitely cute.
I’m just saying that every time I see someone with a diesel vehicle these days, I think “You would have been better off with the gas engine. You’re getting screwed”
And not too long ago, I was considering getting a Golf TDI. When I went to look at it, it wouldn’t start. The seller wanted $3000 for a Golf TDI that wouldn’t start and didn’t want to let me try jump-starting it.
I offered him $500 for it as-is.
He didn’t take my offer.
And now in hindsight, it was a blessing in disguise.

Yeah I don’t know how but my Cruze is a better big car than my brother’s Fusion somehow. It is a more pleasant experience for everyone as long as the occasional elbow knock can be forgiven. Practical small sedans seem to get a bad rap if they don’t have some sort of vague sporting pretensions but what’s the point? I’ve never driven a Versa but the expectations are probably just as harmful to the experience as the crappy CVT.
BTW if you are wondering what a Cruze is like to drive, it just has the slowest steering ratio you’ve ever had in a small car; it is precise with half decent feel, so it is a good cruiser, somehow.

My versa has the automatic transmission, not the CVT. I drove a rental Versa with the CVT and I was not impressed with it.
One car I’d really like a chance to drive is a base model Kia Stinger.

Neither is anyone else, apparently. Now the Stinger is an interesting one. I would also be curious what a base Veloster is like.

The First Gen were rare... the Second Gen? It’s surprising they bothered bringing it over, but I’ve never found an unhappy First Gen owner... 55 MPG and just a great car for the price.
