For those living under a rock for the past few days, team Oppo banded together, no surprise there and we’re quickly moving through the ranks. With 163 active CPU/GPUs we have quite a bit of raw compute horsepower at the ready.
Our fearless folding leader !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! had the brilliant idea to create the team ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ) less than a week ago and we’ve quickly landed ourselves in the top 1% of all the active folding teams and there’s no chance of slowing us down. Quite the feat in such a short amount of time!
Folding at home is a way to utilizes spare CPU across all modern computers (Windows, OSx and Linux , plus your GPU time (AMD/Nvidia) for PC and Linux users (sorry Mac folks, no GPU support) to solve complex protein folding simulations, with donated computer resources. This folding helps scientists look for cures to a plethora of health issues; Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, Coronavirus 19, and Ebola virus disease. The total power of all folding at home users, is enough to overshadow the top 500 super computers performance, combined!
With our collective power, we are now at ~2.4 exaFLOPS (faster than the top 500 supercomputers combined)! We complement supercomputers like IBM Summit, which runs short calculations using 1000s of GPUs at once, by spreading longer calculations around the world in smaller chunks! !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
If you haven’t joined and have some spare computer resources you’re willing to spare, please head over to the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! to download the software. Keep in mind this will use a little more electricity and produce more heat from your computer but it all goes towards a good cause.
Thank you to all our active members!

Kudos to Rusty for setting this up. It’s nice to have a group project these days, something that is of interest to so many of us, and is actually doing some good. You have the option of selecting which disease you would like your computing power to benefit. I’ve selected Parkinson’s, since our dad was diagnosed with it last year (Rusty’s my brother, for those who didn’t know ).
Carry on, Oppo, you magnificent folding bastards!

I was worried about additional heat being generated in my office since the server I added to the folding group sits under my desk. Right now, the office is a balmy 79.9°F. That’s only a couple of degrees higher than it was before.
The fan blowing on me makes it tolerable, but it’s clear w e’re going to need to make some adjustments to our a/c.

My home office is fairly small and my gaming rig with a notebook folding away creates a fair amount of heat, no a/c here but it’s been really nice outside lately, so I just open the window.

I’m down at the bottom as the only machine I have running is my media server so it is only running off its GPU. Its also an ancient core duo so I’m not surprised its taking it about 6 hours a WU. I may add one of our more modern household desktops but I’d rather not mess w/ my household power consumption too much right now.

It’s 71.5°F outside right now. The office in my house is an interior room with no windows. I’d open a window if I had one. In a few more weeks, it will be way hotter and humid outside than inside.

Dude: excellent. Thank you.

You might consider folding on one of the more modern PCs and shutting down or discontinuing on the other one. there's a good chance you'd get many more teraflops out of the modern one and expend less electricity in the process.

We just had our top spot overtaken by the unknown Deltazx1 well done , JKminer did an awesome job getting us so far! We also have a handful of folks hot on the trail for lead position.

So much more of a contributor, I’ll have to play with settings so it doesn’t sound like cessna is getting ready to take off all the time.

And now it’s JK in the lead again!
