Looks like the current owner hasn’t done shit with it either.
A lot of potential there. 289 auto?

That Metal Pot with Lid nearby is kinda nice, too. For $5, hmm.

260 auto. He’s done more than it looks like. Completely rebuilt the engine and I think he replaced the floors, which were really the only major issues with it.
Also, those bumpers. The picture in my driveway is from when he brought it by a couple of years back so I could see it again.

With a fresh engine and new floors (assuming they’re done right) that’s a NP.

Yeah, it came from down south so other than the floors it was actually really solid.
The man we bought it from, I ended up becoming best friends with his nephew like 2 months later. Didn’t even know they were related.

Is it worth the 700 mile drive, though?

Well gas is basically free now so I’ll say sure why not.

I need to be thankful that I have school right now, as I’d probably be embarking on a LOT of interesting road trips.

Yeah, meanwhile I have a car that struggles to get 20 mpg , yet I haven’t bought gas in a month and the tank is still 3/4 full.
Work and family are what’s keeping me from trying to drive Route 66, or trying to map a route starting at the Red Ball Garage.

I came real close to buying a ‘62 years back, but I never woulda done anything with it either. Awesome cars though, always loved them, perfect bridge between the fifties and the muscle cars design wise.

The whole story is kinda funny. Dad and I had been looking for a project, and he decided to show it to me even though he didn’t really care for it that much.
I, however, immediately fell in love and pestered him to go make an offer on it for like 24 hours straight.
He lowballed the seller (whom I later found out is my best friend’s uncle) by $1000 hoping he’d laugh in Dad’s face. Obviously, he didn’t.
I was ecstatic. Dad was not.
However, I was a lazy child so even though I had dreams for it, I didn’t actually want to be in the garage and do any work (It’s too hot, I’d whine. Kicking myself now, almost- wow, TEN YEARS later.)
So nothing ever got done. We’d talked of a 410 stroker Windsor, teardrop/Thunderbolt hood, C4/C6 trans, and minitubs.
It’d have been cool for sure, but ultimately, Dad never even wanted a Fairlane (they weren’t cool when he was growing up and his perception of them as an ‘old man car’ never really changed, so his heart was never in it) and my laziness meant nothing happened.

Nice! When I was a kid, a neighbor had a gorgeous black 63 Fairlane coupe, with a red interior. The car was bone stock and immaculate. I’ve always really liked that model year, with the vestigial fins for one last year.

Seeing it for sale again really reminds me of how much I like the bodystyle, and it’s really bumming me out lol. I’d love to have it back. Shame I don’t have the space or money.

My first car was a ‘64 fairlane 4 door. Windsor white with a red chrome trim. Pretty nifty car, kind of like what Ford ought to do with today’s stang. were they to want to double, sales.
