I’m looking at upgrading from the factory Goodyears on the F150. Goodyear is evil and I both will not spend money on them, and do not want them advertised on my vehicle.

I’m looking at the BFG KO2 and the General Grabber ATX. Any experience with either?

Unfortunately I’m somewhat size limited as I have 20 inch wheels, and I do not desire to buy wheels plus tires. So, I’m looking at OEM 275/55/20. Use will be primarily paved road, but I have been getting more adventurous and would like the capability of mud, rock, dirt etc. They will be used year-round so if other suggestions are made I’d like them to have the 3 peak winter rating as both of these do.

Thanks.

Winder Towing for your time.

Why’s Goodyear evil?

I have the K02s on my XJ in 33x10.50 and in 265/75R16 E-rated on my Suburban. I like how they look, they have great traction pretty much everywhere, and I’ve got 40,000ish miles on the set on the Burban and there’s still plenty of tread. They’re smooth, quiet and they balance well.

I just finished off a set of Grabber AT2's, the previous version of the ATX, and they were hands down the best truck tire I’ve ever ran. I had 115, 000 miles on them in 4 years. Everything from pavement, stop n go, mud, snow, ice, gravel, rock etc and they never let me down. The only place they were l acking was on ice, but short of ice specific tires, most everything is. I have friends with similar trucks that swear by BFG's, but they never last more than 50 or so and cost twice as much. I have a Silverado half ton crew cab.

The KO2s are the gold standard in this class for good reason, but you pay for it. The Yokohama AT-GO15, Falken WildPeak are also very good contenders for a bit less money. I haven’t driven the new Hankook AT2, but the old AT-M that it is evolved from was a surprisingly good and capable AT tire (and exceptionally  good on ice and packed snow) that used to be sold for very cheap.  The AT2 isn’t cheap anymore, but it may be very good if they kept the good stuff about the tire it evolved from.

Jalopnik covered Goodyear extensively back when they actually did journalism. It has to do with a motorhome tire that they sold that wasn’t properly rated, so it ended up killing people, and Goodyear is doing everything they can to keep it quiet. Thus, I’ll never spend another cent on a goodyear product.

agree with Goodyear. Was not happy with the way my duratracs wore. Have you looked at falken? Cheaper than bfg, better tread warranty and mine have been outstanding. Get the rubitrek or at3w

I would advise against the hankook. They wear like iron: Rough and unevenly

I wanted to get the KO2s on my Range Rover but was steered toward some Kuhmo Road Venture ATs instead. The KO2s are a heavy tire and the Kuhmos were significantly cheaper (like half price). They are very nice on the road and are decently capable offroad.

The KO2s are sort of the benchmark for AT tires, so you can’t really go wrong there IMO. I’ve never spent the cash on them, so I can’t personally say.

Looks like you have a TON of options in that size , which is neat. I’m seeing Kumho Road Venture AT51s, which are a great tire. I’ve also heard good things about the General grabber. Looks like you can also get the Falken Wildpeak AT3s, which I just put on my Discovery and REALLY like them , so that is what I would go for.

I usually get my tires through Tire Buyer, but lately Discount Tire has been offering the same times for the same money, so I’d also check them out.

Ditto, I have Goodyear and Firestone on my permanent “do not buy” list. Everything else is fair game (except usually Michelin, but for cocky pricing reasons...)

I have a friend who just got a 2018 chevy silverado that had 20's. He went to the tire store and got 17's and some sidewall the first day he owned the truck. Steep price of entry but you get more ride comfort and a better selection of tires.

Good to know on the AT2. I ran a couple of sets of AT-Ms on ye olde Escalade and they were fantastic. The downside was treadlife, as the first set lasted the only usual 20-25k for an AT tire on that truck. The second set dry rotted before they wore out via the truck no longer being a daily driver and living outside full time.

Ko2s are great tires. Expensive though. Good in the snow my buddy has them on both his plow trucks and they work great. Seem to last pretty well too and he tows trailers all the rest of the year.

I had a set of Cooper AT-W’s on my old 7.3 and they were unstoppable in the winter. Also did decent on the logging roads and muddy fields i drove through. Didn’t have them long enough to know the wearing on them.

I think they are called this now:

How the heck did you get the tires to last twice the mileage than they’re rated for?

Admittedly, they were 285 70 17's that only come in load e. However, on my dad's daily Wrangler, his 33 1250 load c's have 80 on them and looking pretty good still.

I wouldn’t recommend the KO2s I have a 2013 f-150 I bought new and leveled it right away which at the time was the original KO2 tread design. I had road hazard and around 25k got a nail in the sidewall of two tires after hitting a pallet that fell off a truck on the highway. They had to replace all 4 tires since they changed the tread design which I thought was awesome at the time. What I found out quickly was they were very soft and prone to cupping regardless of rotation intervals (do mine every 3k) or alignment angles(which I had checked several times due to cupping). The tread wear was not only terrible but I had two tires completely come apart on the highway doing 75(different times). I am religious about tire pressure and tow a small travel trailer that is 5500lbs wet. I went to Goodyear Wrangler trail runner ats a couple years back and love them. Quiet, perform well off-road and tow well. We camp in northern az AZ and hit rutted out dirt roads and washboards going fishing.  Nothing like the hardcore trails at table Mesa so I can't speak to that.  Good luck

I have a 2015 ram 1500 4z4that came with street tires when i got it, they were terrible, undersized for the truck, 31" vs 33" factory size, had zero traction in the rain and would break loose anytime the hemi wanted them too, i replaced them with a set of PATHFINDER AT 275 /60 R20 115T SL BSW from discount tires. I have been thrilled with them, fantastic traction on road and in the rain and juat gree’s at off road, i like to climb rough hills out by the lakes in az and they have not let me down at all, i also ran over an intact vodka bottle one night in the middle of my street (damm kids) which shattered under the tire, there was zero damage done to the tire, they have also eaten up multiple pot holes and and show no damage. Price was also right at around $166 a tire with a 55 ,000 mile rating

Shit!

Well, I never have purchased a single Goodyear tire... Guess I'll keep it up.

That’s really shitty. Considering my Suburban with travel trailer tips the scales at around 16,000 pounds, I’ll stick with the E-rated  BFGs and steer clear of Goodyear.
