After an initial drive around the block many times, everything I sought to improve on this fall/winter/spring has been beyond my expectations!
The new clutch and shifter bushings have made the shift action and driving experience better than I ever imagined. The shifts are satisfying with no more grinding and nibbles (so far), and precise and crispy with satisfying longish throws! I can now shift with confidence!
The turbo lag and zip, I can feel it now, and it’s enhanced by my not taking a fortnight to shift!
The major leaks I aimed to repair are repaired! Save for one small weep from the replacement oil cooler lines I’d gotten. That said, this is an i mprovement, over the genuine leak the original line had, and buying used parts (because NLA) always has a modicum of risk. I’m content here, and can rebuild the originals later on for a better seal.
Oil and cooling temps are the same with the 10w60 oil as they were with the Mobil 1 15w50. We’ll see how it goes the rest of the year.
Currently running the car without much of an exhaust. The rear part of the exhaust is off for modifications, and the exhaust is dumping underneath from the gutted cat. ALL the turbo noise.
To say that I’m elated with these improve ments would be an understatement! There’s still a lot to work on (suspension alignment, windshield replacement, radio, fully functioning pop-up headlights), but damn, does this make me a very happy man.
I’ll make a video this weekend.

That is a beautiful car right there. Such a lovely shade of blue. Good work. Now: to drive.

Very attractive driver’s class car. The US bumpers don’t always fade into the design quite so well.

Do you have the boost wicked up or standard? I understand it isn’t too hard to coax a few ponies out. Do you belong to 924.org a little sleepy, but some very good support/information.
Also I love the green lettering on the gauges. I am the odd duck that prefers the 924 to the wide hipped cars.

Everything on this car is standard . Changing out the wastegate spring could get back some of the boost and ponies lost by the US e miss ions. My extremely free flowing exhaust should put it in between US and Euro horsepower (147hp-170hp) . When everything is set tuned, I might seek more power later on. But it’s more of a hoot than my old 944.
I am on 924board and 924.org! That’s the first place I go to when I have questions or concerns. Great group of knowledgeable folks all over the world on there. One of my good friends is on there and local to me; he’s been helping and mentoring me through restoring this car from the start! I couldn’t have gotten here without him or them! I’m also on Rennlist, but it’s 944-centric in the 924/931/944/951/968 section.

Especially when you’re worried about damaging a very rare and hard to maintain gearbox!

I’ve gotta say, Porsche did the US bumpers much better than most.

Thanks! I’ve been lurking a lot (trust me, I read Oppo every day), but slow on posts because telecommuting has been busy. I do remind myself that I’m fortunate to even have that option.
I’ve probably said this before, but it makes me really happy to see you doing great things for yourself.

Dude, you inspire the hell out of me. Maybe one day I’ll get my K-Jet Volvo running again, though the tuning is beyond my skill level
at the moment
. How did that work out for you?

I can do very basic tuning (lean->rich) when the system is already in good condition. Fortunately, mine was surprisingly untouched and in working order. Perhaps you could ask TFritch here. He knows a helluva lot more about K-Jet than I do.
