The rules here are simple. How fast can you go on a budget? There is one caveat though. It must be as seen in the ad.
You may use whatever online site you wish: Gumtree, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace. Whatever. Have at it!
All of the following were posted yesterday on my local Craigslist, which is somehow amazing.
2005 Dodge Neon SRT4 - $5800
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
This appears to be a real SRT4 with substantial aftermarket parts and love put into the build, including springs, turbo hardware, injectors, brakes, and exhaust plus a whole lot more
Oh, it also only has 100,000 miles on the chassis. This is a winner.
Engine Swapped 2005 Subaru Legacy GT - $8000
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
The seller claims it has an “STI Short Block” making 300 horsepower at the wheels. We are left to assume a contemporary STI.
Of course, it has been slammed and had tons of work done besides sticking a fast turbo four under the hood. It also looks darned good for 200k chassis.
Very Yellow 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer OZ Rally Edition - $2400
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
It This may be one of the slower ones here but just look at all the yellow! According to Autoblog these only has 120 HP so maybe this doesn’t belong here.

That’s pretty good for a fully built race car. I bet that thing is a hoot. 280 is great for something so light.

I’m guessing it’s not built to any series’ regs, which is why it’s so cheap. I see the windscreen decal has “invitation” on it, which round here means “you don’t qualify but you’re a nice guy s o we’ll let you play anyway as long as you aren’t quick enough to embarrass us . B ut you don’t get any points”.
Even as a track day-only car though, it still looks like a lotta fun for the dollar.

This is probably 7 minutes of run time away from exploding, but it’s a turbo Civic on some sport tires. Makes like 300 and weighs nothing really. 7 minutes is enough time to put in 2 or 3 laps at whatever track we’re at.

This isn’t outright fast but someone here should seriously buy it. Clean AW11. Like this thing is so... so good

Tuned turbo Mini. It’ll probably explode faster than the Civic

A Supra Swapped GS300. For the straight line duties

Ok I actually really want that MR2 but it isn't as fast as the fuse before it explodes like the mini or the Civic. The GS300 is kinda nice. I wonder which would wins around a track with that and the Legacy.

Hmmm I don't know much about that so maybe it could be modified for a fwd spec class?

I feel like the GS would be more fun since it’s rear wheel drive. Turn in, round the apex, hold on tight, and wait for boost to hit and hopefully not light the tires.
The legacy would probably be faster since it wouldn’t be trying to race a couch.

This is probably the most fun for the money

But fast?

If you put this into Canadian dollars it might qualify as cheap enough here. It was too funny of a find not to post somewhere here.
Ze plague doctor will be seeing you (in his rearview mirror) now.

Much like a rental, its one of the fastest cars you'll ever drive

Cheap ass Viper:

Thats unique for sure. "Cheap" is relative but is it "fast?"

1987 Starion that has a tree fiddy for some reason. And a tree fiddy trans, $3800.

The cheapest way to die from brute G force acceleration.
![]() 04/10/2020 at 22:35 |

I’d want to be the one to do it at that price.
![]() 04/10/2020 at 22:36 |

But that is like the slowest $ 1000 car too. A rental would be faster and less bother.

Speaking of which, I was in the driveway today and an older dude drove by in an MGB with a big hood bulge, clearly making V8 noises. I’d guess Ford 302 or SBC based on the sound (302 would be my first guess )
![]() 04/10/2020 at 23:31 |

I’d like to buy that and put a Honda K series in it
![]() 04/10/2020 at 23:32 |

I like that a lot!
![]() 04/10/2020 at 23:40 |

As long as it gets a 3rd pedal in the process that would work nice.

Budget is a pretty broad term, I searched with a limit of 15k. 13 seemed to be the right number.
Maybe not fun, but sub 6 second 0-60 time make it fast.
I love the paint job on this Mazda.
This Buick sure is pretty. And the 455 probably gets moving too.
And more budget friendly this Police Charger is a deal.
![]() 04/11/2020 at 00:04 |

Yup. And a turbo

I like how much that interior looks like it came out of a jet boat.

I left budget up to you guys. Those are some nice picks. The quarter mile drag truck is pretty fast and seems well built for that price.
![]() 04/11/2020 at 00:23 |

It just needs a turbo or two to get it into the 10s...
![]() 04/11/2020 at 00:25 |

And the livery is perfect as is. Though I am partial to green and yellow not blue and yellow. Ideas.

I’m sure there is a strong crossover in the Venn diagram of owners.

In a straight line I imagine it is.
