The passenger compartment looks pretty intact.

Note how far away the cop cars are in the background. I assume this is the road he was driving on.

Welp, there’s your problem. The engine escaped.

OTOH, I love a car that can part itself out like that. Much more efficient!

time for some clever fellah ta go liberate that LT4...

I wonder how much engine damage is caused by it coming out the car and hitting the ground. Apart from ripped apart wiring and some bent pulleys.

Not gonna lie, kinda impressed by Chevy’s crash engineers.

no doubt. engine out as a way to absorb some impact, and that passenger compartment is well sustained. very impressive

Yeah, the thing clearly took a big hit to that roof pillar and yet the roof remains basically level with where it was from the factory.

the post doesnt have much info, but I wouldn’t be particularly surprised if that’s a crash you could walk (or perhaps stagger) away from.

modern cars are truly astounding.

Years ago in retail, i commuted 60 miles to run a store, and at Christmas time took all night to clean up. LSS was pulled over at 1am going 110+ mph still with my name badge on, given a warning that I could end up looking like this.

I’m sure it varies by engine, especially with the modern use of plastic for parts like intake manifolds, coolant necks, and oil pans...

My father’s been a cop since the early ‘70s, he remarks on that a lot every time some drunk relative at a party wants to start going on about how modern cars are flimsy plastic because the ‘ gubmit wants fuel economy etc. etc. Modern cars are really a miracle of safety engineering, the technology works extremely well.

People routinely walk away from crashes that just a few decades ago would have been brains and guts spread everywhere.
