Wear a mask to keep your cooties to yourself. In the Beginning, we were told that coronavirus wasn’t carried in aerosol droplets. I guess they’ve had a re-thing on that.

It’s one thing to assume it, another to see it in action.
I suspect we’re going to have a hard time adjusting to them, but I really think we’re all going to be wearing masks for several months once we get things moving again.

I was out trying to jog yesterday, and some junior high-looking kids being driven in a minivan razzed me about not wearing a mask. Not going to do it when I’m trying to exercise.

I went shopping yesterday in multiple stores, with a crappy paint mask because that’s the best I’ve got at the moment, safety goggles mainly to prevent myself from touching my eyes, and nitrile gloves. The vast majority of shopp ers and employees were wearing masks and gloves and most stores had installed sneeze guards at the registers.
Target was an exception. No sneeze guards, and my cashier was wearing a mask but no gloves. I chatted with him a bit and asked if the store was taking good care of the employees. He said they gave out gloves but he didn’t feel like wearing them. I *gently* encouraged him to use them. I may have slipped in an anecdote about not wanting to infect my 96 year old grandma to guilt trip him a little.

I agree, exercise is tough, but I’m encouraged that social pressure is kicking in.

Wearing gloves doesn’t do anything unless you change them between everything you touch. If the person before you in line got their cooties on their items, then the cashier touched them while bagging, unless he changes gloves before touching the register and between every purchase, your items are going to get the other person’s cooties.

The gloves don’t do much. It’s easier to wash your hands and don’t pick your nose or lick your fingers. My special lady friend is a nurse and that was her advice.
I went to Home Depot yesterday and about 90% of the folks were covered, most with prefab masks of some kind. I’m going to start wearing my respirator when I go out since it’s easier to breathe in than a mask and it doesn’t fog up my glasses. Plus I shaved my face special for it.

This is true, and I'm sure a lot of these cashiers aren't changing gloves after each customer. Hopefully the stores start enforcing that soon.

The big advantage to having gloves is the ability to wash/sanitize your gloved hands over and over again without worrying about destroying your skin.
If you aren’t going to do this, then yes, you are correct, the gloves have to be disposed of as the situation demands.
We’ve had groceries delivered several times now. My wife sprays down everything with lysol (except the fresh fruit and veggies), and waits until the lysol has had a chance to kill everything (3-4 minutes or just wait until it’s dry). C hilled/frozen items are placed into a cooler with ice packs to keep them cold until the lysol has had a chance to do its job.

Shaving is key. When I worked in a chemical plant, we wouldn’t allow anyone beyond the reception area without a clean-shaven face (moustache allowed). We were processing phenol derivatives which were really nasty. Everyone, whether worker, guest, or trucker, had to be able to wear a respirator in case of an emergency.

I looked like this before. The mask would have done nothing.

I just went to a construction site, and no one else was wearing a mask (neither professionals nor laborers) , and the guys I was meeting with didn’t care about social distance. I had to keep backing away from them.
Then I went to Wal-Mart, where I finally found toilet paper (hooray!) and about 70 % of the shoppers and 40% of the workers were wearing masks.
I can’t decide what this says beyond that I really, really don’t want to catch this.

We had a few truckers show up with a full beard. Over the years, only one guy refused to shave and left the plant without a load. A couple of them called their dispatch and they sent over a driver to get the truck into the plant and loaded. I can only assume the original driver took over after the truck left the plant.

People keep obsessing over the fatality rates, but the impact is so much broader than the number of victims who die. I definitely don’t want to catch it either; even if I don’t die, there’s a good chance I’ll end up with damaged lungs, or lose my job because I’m in the hospital for weeks, or lose my mother because I gave it to her, or...

Exactly. One guy even said, “Oh, what people don’t talk about is that 98% of people recover.” I didn’t have the energy to point out that people who catch it and recover appear to have permanent damage to their lungs. And I’ve already visited the hospital one more time than I cared to this year (thanks, broken collarbone) .
