Right down to the color. I know almost nothing about these cars except that I love the aesthetics and hate the engine (flame suit on?) Anyone have a guess in what it will go for?

I love those cars too, not sure about the engine, should be better than the RX-8 which is a gutless hamster cage. I bet with the right buyers this car could hit $25-30k but who knows.

Yeah that’s to much cheese for a wankel. I’d love to buy one of these already LS swapped.

I would bid on this if I wasnt set on buying a Ninja 400. I expect this thing to crest $10k quick though.

My ideal swap for a wankle car is mazda’s 2.3L turbo that puts out 280 HP or so. You would need a bit of a hood bubble but I bet it would fit pretty well.

I like the idea of keeping it Mazda powered.

In normal times that might do at least $30k. High miles but it’s had a ton of work, including engine and trans, and it hasn’t been (or at least currently isn’t) highly modified, which helps. I think owning these things is like knowing that you stepped on a mine. Lots of adrenaline, and as long as you don’t step off you’ll live. Modifying them is stepping off on purpose.

Sometimes you like the fireworks. I knew a kid in high school (from a well heeled family) who had one that was making like 500-550 HP. It was NUTS... when it ran.

First thought was “and when does she plan on meeting her dream husband to buy it for her?” Before returning to her true passion in life, you, of course.

Don’t mind my poorly displayed sense of humor. Everything worth having is worth the wait and I’m sure the two of you can find an acceptable one.

Yeah, this is a tough one for me as it won’t be had cheap and I don’t have any personal interest other than my wife’s happiness. So if it’s a problem it’s something that I will quickly regret... Where is if something happened to my 02 and I could not afford to fix it, I would just stop eating for a while, haha.

Her almost as dreamy dream car is an Austin Cooper, which I also happen to adore. They’re slightly more available/cheaper also.

Now really isn’t the time for a purchase like this anyway and I’m not serious unless it were to stay around/under 15k which is highly unlikely.

lol, for real. Luck y for me she can’t be bought, I’m the one dazzled by fancy things. I had the “opportunity” to buy one for 12k. I passed because it was “mid LS swap” haha.

I hope I love driving the one we eventually end up with. It’s ironic because my wife almost always asks that I drive regardless of the car. She always talks about how much she misses her Cooper S, and I’m like “not as much as I do!”

I’m curious to see if Ninja 400s start getting steep discounts in the coming months. I’d be pretty interested in one as a commuter, but at $5500 with ABS it’s a tough sell when I can get a brand new 390 Duke for under $4k, and that’s before any haggling.

The white car is low mileage and appears to be mostly original. This one has some aftermarket stuff done to it, and is of truly unknown mileage owing to the replacement cluster. I make the case that hurts the value, a bit. Then again I’m an idiot who looks at 200k mile Volvos with lusty eyes . Do you know how many Volvos I could buy for +/- $ 30k? Probably most of them.

Regardless, these cars are headed for the stratosphere, I think, much like the Mk 4 Supras.

Same here, though I have found a local dealer that have quite a few Ninja 400 ABS’s in inventory for $4499 so If I pull the trigger Im most likely going to go with them if they stay at those prices . And from what I’ve been researching , dealers are willing to negotiate on them (dealers aren’t willing to budge on Yamaha R3's, another bike I was considering ).

KTM 390 is good and probably the closest to a track monster you can get in this price range, but I wouldn’t touch one. They have a bunch of reliability and quality issues.

That ktm reliability is the only reason I’m still waffling back and forth. It sucks, because the bike is so fun to ride and in my opinion one of the best looking cheap bikes out there.

A t $ 4599 I think I’d definitely go the ninja route.

My wife just looks at a car and decides if she likes it or not,. S he loves Defenders, she saw the one on Doc Matrit that P C Penhale drives and also Vera and she wants one. I said the gas might get expensive and it might be tough getting one. Did I mention she is from Japan and has no license at all!? She used to like Lexus RXs and switched to that, egg to box!

The racing beat springs over koni shocks are a good choice, so while aftermarket that would instill confidence (so long as you're not one who must have stock). And yellow, which is much better than white. But the gauge cluster does hurt it, for sure.

The reliability is why I stopped considering one, especially with how serious some of the problems are (owners on the forums seem to pass them off as not serious, using the “every bike has its problems” or calling them quirks.) The RC390 was at the top of my list until I started researching it. But more than likely I’m going to go the Ninja route.

As a person named Felix, I give you permission to ditch the Felix designed engine and prefer nicely swapped LS versions. That’s secretly the one I’d want, though I prefer the dark aqua color they came in.

Good that it has a new engine, bad that it still uses stock twins with the rat’s nest of vacuum tubes, and OEM radiator and intercooler.

Heat is the enemy for the 13B. They need a huge radiator, huge intercooler, and to ditch the stock twin turbo mess of a system for a quick spooling single turbo. Then it might hold together.

It’s a generational thing I think, most younger people regardless of gender didn’t ever need to learn stick because automatics were common in their first cars, whereas older folks first car was very likely a manual where they had to learn why manuals are better.

Right!? and she is younger than I (32). She had a 5 speed escort that she loved, then an automatic Hyundai. She really wanted a Cooper S but her family is very frugal when it comes to cars, so it took some convincing from TreatYoSelf Tripper before she pulled the trigger as that was early in our relationship. Now we both miss that car dearly.

YaGotta! Haha. When I told my dad I was thinking about pulling the trigger on the M3 @ 22 y/o he said something to the effect of “As your father I cannot advise you to buy that car.” Then he laid out the details of the ridiculous deal I was entering with the STi I was underwater on begging a bank to finance me for the difference of it and the 4.5 year old M3 I wanted. Then he said, but you’re young with 0 responsibilities and a good job. If you fuck this up, you will recover. If you don’t you have yourself a super car at an age where you will never enjoy it more.

The rest is history. Although there were a few times that I came real close to not making ends meet. I went door to door in an office park after I was laid off from Circuit City offering any sort of IT services for nearly nothing. Made a few last minute payments on that car, in person, with cash haha.
