I’ve been careful to restrain my witty repertoire to venues off the fp here even when I did frequent it. So the string of months old comments being replied or liked there the last few days has been uncommon. After visiting “J” more times in one morning than I have in the last year they got a click to see what the place is like.

Wow, now that was a fun read and the video evidence just kept getting wilder. Since nobody got hurt a little punting of the driver commenced. Granted this was very NYC’centric where most of them are located. If they only had a network of sources that let them report on important news like this in a timely fashion. Unfortunately I clicked through to read the comments and the honeymoon was over.
[Update] Not sure what I expected after seeing the carnage left in the aftermath of his drive that day. Speculative assertions of drug use in the finale still strike me as ill determined given the almost certain fact of head trauma resulting from this.

I’m still disappointed in the law enforcement response. He was doing what... 60 ish when he hit the Sienna? And tried to run. And they just let him loiter behind the car with his hands in his pockets for a while. Even let him go back into the car. They should have put his sorry ass on the ground.

It’s so weird going to the front page and reading articles from people I’ve never heard of. That being said, I’ve been reading Jalopnik since like 2012 so I’ve seen a ton of people come and go. I read maybe 50% of the posts, and have only recently started commenting on any of them. It is funny to get a notification or reply from a comment I made weeks ago though ....... who does that?

I went investigating thinking they were recycling old content from a year or two back. Maybe there was encouragement to drop linkbacks to old articles in new ones that I missed.

Yeah, could be. They do that mostly on holidays.

He literally has nowhere to go and they have no reason to initiate contact/ a confrontation. Notice he got stopped by a NG roadblock. No way anyone gets stopped in that situation and has that type of response in any other scenario.

Rich kid, rules don’t apply.
I’d love to see the reaction if this was a kid from Paterson who crashed his 99 Civic and behaved similarly.
It’ll be interesting to see what kind of slap on the wrist is given to the notorious shitbag driver.

I love how the author, the font of knowledge that he is, fails to actually name the shitbag driver.
This is yet another case for ending pay for play residency.

Well with a functioning justice system he’d never drive again.

With a functioning system he’d likely not have been (legally) able to drive during his latest incident.

He does list his Instagram handle, which is arguably just as relevant since the guy was probably doing it for future follows.

That’s probably the case. Last week I had two replies to comments I made a few years ago. Must have been a link...or lottery level coincidence.

The authors actually can’t control what posts are linked at the bottom anymore. I think an algorithm controls it and has been the subject of significant backlash among the writers there.

But why not name the guillotine fodder outright? Fear of legal consequences based on Gawker history?

Everyone else is naming him though (and everyone knows who it is just by the unfortunate car) . Funny that jellopicnic was the only holdout.
Maybe dad owns part of the kinjaverse.

Could be. I’m curious as to what drugs he was on. When he was being arrested he seemed too calm for it to be coke.

I was thinking it might just be shock, but he has such a long and storied history of being a shitty driver that he should be used to crashing by now.
Coke is popular among the monied crowd, could be, could also just be a weird guy.

One of his charges was driving under the influence of drugs. Everything else about it does scream coke fiend: the money, the thrillseeking.

It adds up.
I know NY authorities sometimes like to nail people, it’ll be interesting to see if that happens, or if daddy greases some palms.

Whatever he allegedly was under the influence of certainly didn’t impair his ability to square up perfectly on the minivan while fighting control. Front c rumple zone to rear crumple zone with barely enough room between the parked cars to walk is something I’d rate a sober and alert drivers chances at pulling off with low odds.
All we can do is speculate lightly and observe the frankly large amount of video from multiple scenes surrounding the incident that have surfaced. Ruling out mechanical or electrical system failure is certainly not possible.
