As I said yesterday, it’s astoundingly bad. But then this guy got the job because the last guy wasn’t ok with pardoning war criminals and restoring their rank and honors, so I guess it should be expected.
I also love that his office was trying to claim that this was a private speech. Guess he was “too naive or too stupid” to realize that it was obviously going to leak.

“Naive and stupid” is a job requirement for working in the Trump administration.
Full of the sound of the Gran Fury, signifying nothing.

That goes beyond forehead - more like a fivehead...
I know the experts say not to touch your face, but everyday I am facepalming so much with each and every news story I think I’m going to break my skull. Maybe I should tune into OAN to get some good news for a change and hear that everything right now is just great and wonderful and things have never been better in the history of our country, if not the entire existence of planet earth.

I saw a bit of this on the news last night. How did he ever think this was going to end well? Even if what he said was never recorded, the military are a very tight knit group. Hell, these are the guys you’re going to war with, and they would lay their lives on the line for any of their brothers in arms. I’m just waiting for the upper ranks to stop obeying his orders in mass. The only way this ends is with Modley resigning.

he’s a toady, no surprise there. I get that armed forces require discipline and order, and that Capt. Crozier very likely knew he was risking his career, but doubling down on this horseshit is depressing.
the captain did the right thing sticking up for the safety of his crew. Modly did the “correct” thing by the rules of the Navy.
The real problem is when “right” and “correct” are so far apart.

I... don’t even think I can bear to listen to it.
I've read enough that I'm ashamed those who have chosen to serve our country and put themselves at risk had to hear it.

I love him telling everyone what narrative they should believe, what they should think, whawt politics they should promote. Yup. Love hearing the response of the crew...”what the..”
This man has zero confidence now from the Naval officers and crew.

Modly could have fired Crozier and then told the rest of us that he was bound to do so and the other officers and the rest of us could have accepted it. That Crozier would have understood that he was risking his career and credited Crozier with that. This illustrates again that there is only one Donald Trump and that there _ only is_ Donald Trump. I am alarmed by how many people are okay with that.

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”

I wonder where his political allegiance lives. Crozier needs to call him out, military subordination can go fuck itself.
Just right for this regime and this timeline. We’re going to need a new Nuremberg trials when this is finally over.

Teddy was one of the first presidents to bring some amount of celebrity to the office and, in my opinion, one of the last ones to deserve it.

Anyone who serves Donald Trump in this administration is destined to fail because they are not Donald Trump. And if they succeeded in being Donald Trump, or being as good as Donald Trump at some thing, they’d get fired for steeling attention from Donald Trump. Who takes this on? Donald Trump has broken many brains across the political spectrum.

Hopefully, not to be conducted from the bottom of a smoking, radioactive hole. I think I’ll watch Dr. Strangelove again during the Great Hunker. Trump has surrounded himself with people who would stand by while he pushed the button.

I never served, but grew up in a Navy family, (not U.S. N avy) and my old man, “whoa, the admiral and I don’t get along”, was the CO of a warship. I’ve got mixed feelings about the whole experience, but wasn’t surprised to see Navy brass eat their own young. Now every man and woman in the U.S. navy is disgusted by the acting secretary. They’re gonna have to shoot him out of a cannon to fix this.

The slavish devotion of the base shows itself to the highest levels of this regime.
I’m optimistic we won’t be nuked, but a lot of people will be worse off at the end of this term compared to the beginning. And most of them still won’t get it.

Cool. What navy, then? Honestly, I don’t have a problem with them sacking Capt. Crozier. He had to assume that they would. They just could have been professional about it rather than sycophantically political.

I feel like Captain Crozier knew it would end his career, but decided it was the right thing to do, so he stepped up and did it. Kudos to him for that.
Also I sent you an email last night - hopefully you got it?

That’s a long story but no, he didn’t handle captaining well either, was also relie ved of command, so 25 years in the navy didn’t end well. I’ll never know the whole story. He was, at the time the first sailor from the prairies to command a warship since the end of WW2, which he was quite proud of. Commanded 2 MCDVs (maritime coastal defence vessels, brand new ones took them through sea trials and commisioning).

He did get a teaching degree after but was just broken, the navy was the true love of his life, he died about 8 years later. I’ve got his cap and medals proudly displayed. We buried him in a cask of Jolly Jack Pusser’s Rum (supplier of rum to the British navy for generations, with some very ornate, fancy bottles ) with the rest of his ashes sent to the 3 oceans that surround Canada. I don’t talk about it much, but whatever the reason, being relie ved of command is something I’ve seen completely destroy a guy. I hope Capt. Crozier comes out of this O.K.

Thank you for sharing that. I hope that in Captain crozier's case, he knew what he was getting into and made a conscious choice. I suspect he must have known that he'd get the sack.
