We've had a nice spell of weather here, so I've been getting some good scooter rides in. I happened to glance at the odometer during a stop, and had to laugh.

Nice! My scooter only has maybe 100 miles more on the odometer than yours does. Not bad considering it's been around since the 80s.

That will happen this summer. My goal is to put 2k miles on this season . Might have to scale that back without the whole riding to work thing though.

This one had 28xx miles on it when I bought it in July of ‘18. My goal is to roll 8k miles on it this season. That will be tough without the whole riding to work thing.

I've been riding mine to work about once a week (I work in a pharma lab, so we aren't closing anytime soon). The lack of traffic has been nice. We're just at a weird point with our weather because it might be 65 and sunny in the afternoon, but it's only 38 degrees out when I leave for work. My helmet fogs up and so I have to leave it cracked open, which gets pretty chilly.

I know how that goes. 40° in the morning is my  bottom for riding to work. Below that it’s not worth the trouble. My helmet has vents in it, so that helps with the fogging, but I do have to crack the visor when I’m stopped.

40 is about my limit as well. I also won’t ride unless the chance of rain is 0% for the day.

About two weeks ago, I changed my own oil. I'm a little concerned that I don't have the right amount of oil in there. The sevice manual says to add 1100mL. I drained it out and added a quart (946mL) and now it looks like it's too high. If I had added 1100mL it might have been overflowing.

I’m a little more adventurous with rain chances, but not a lot.

Were you on level ground while on the center stand ? If so, and the dipstick is reading good, you’re good.

I don't have any rain gear, plus my work laptop is with me in a backpack on my commute, so I'm not taking a chance on rain for now.

The scooter was on the center stand and in my garage. That’s close enough to level.

As for the dipstick, I don’t have one. There is a little window with 2 lines. You’re supposed to run it for a while, turn it off, and check. While running, the level is between the lines. When I turn it off, the level rises to above the upper line. I’m just confused about why my scooter needs less than a quart when the service manual says 1100mL.

I don’t carry rain gear either. I rarely take my laptop home, but if there’s is a slight chance I get a little wet on the way home, I’m OK with that. I can just change when I get home. That’s only happened a couple times.

The manuals typically don’t get revised very often, even when changes are made, so there can be some variance.  I wouldn’t worry about it.

My work has mandated that we all take our laptops home every night these days as a precaution. And I’m not confident enough in my skills to ride on wet roads yet.

As for the oil, I guess I'll drain some out and see how it goes. Too much oil is probably a bad thing.

It definitely makes sense to be taking it home these days. The last week before the state called it, we were taking ours home too. And you’re right to not ride on the rain until you get more experience.

Don't worry about the oil. You're being paranoid.

I have never changed my own oil before on any vehicle, so that's why I'm overthinking it.
