We like foaming hand soap in my house because it saves water, saves soap, and requires less time to get to a lather, which was useful in training my impulsive child in good hygiene. But lately the stores are out , so I bought regular liquid soap. I was looking for old soft soap pumps in the house to fill when I had a thought:
“Hey, is foaming soap the same as watered down liquid soap?”
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! You can take your liquid soap, dilute it 1:5 or 1:6 with water, and put it in the foaming containers with the same results . Which tells you that I was paying too much for foaming soap all this time, because it costs more per ounce. I refilled all the foaming containers, and I’ll be saving money on soap from now on out.
File this under “duh” in the same way that I didn’t realize “twinkle twinkle” and the ABC song were the same tune until I was an adult. Just never thought about it.
P.S: bar soap is still probably the cheapest way to wash your hands anyway.

I hate foaming soap because it leaves my hands super dry and itchy. Regul ar liquid soap only does that a little bit.

But if you add water to make it, does it still save water?

“ I didn’t realize “twinkle twinkle” and the ABC song were the same tune until I was an adult.”
Wait, whaOH SWEET MARY MOTHER OF.... YOU’RE TOTALLY RIGHT!!! HOW HAVE I GONE MY ENTIRE LIFE WITHOUT EVER NOTICING THAT!!?? My mind is completely and utterly blown. This is the most amazing thing I’ve read all day.

I like liquid soap, as it also works for shampoo, conditioner, and shaving gel.

Wait you didn’t know that? Just wait till you learn that the ice cream van song is an instrumental of a racist adaption of Turkey in the Straw about watermelon.

I guess I just never devoted enough thought to twinkle twinkle and the ABC song to realize they were the same... As for the racist watermelon song, wha...?

We don’t need more depression in our lives, so don’t read this.

Okay I’m filing this knowledge bomb to “best of oppo”

Hold up there, Newt...the ice cream van isn’t playing “Turkey in the Straw”?

It should be the same compound. Either way, I suffer from dry skin with frequent hand washing. That’s why I always keep pumps of good hand lotion at each sink.

Yes, because it saves the running water you usually have to use to lather the soap otherwise. That’s a lot more.

My mind was blown too. Many adults are. We never think about it. It’s just there from childhood.

When I stay in hotels in the UK or Europe, and sometimes here in the US, often they provide pumps of body wash that I’ll use as interchangeable with shampoo.

See link below for the full story.
For his creation, Browne simply used the well-known melody of the early 19th century song “Turkey in the Straw,” which dates to the even older and traditional British song “The (Old) Rose Tree.”

Finally I make a contribution!

Crap, too late, I read it. It’s so weird to think racism was so normalized back then... It never even occ urred to people that they were doing some seriously messed up stuff.

Yeah stuff like that is generally better left unsaid, since it really can only do further harm at this point I guess. It’s a fine line between educating about the past to prepare for the future and creating bitterness and discontent. This is one case where public knowledge perhaps does more harm than good.
Absolutely incredible that Columbia Records released that “song” and an instrumental is still being played today.

This is pertinent to my interests! I too prefer foamy liquid soap so this is very handy.

I was surprised as everyone was panic buying soap, that all the bar soap was still left. I didn’t buy any as I had plenty at the house, but do people really not realize that it’s the same thing?

Great! Also, appreciate the pun. :)

I’m not sure. Growing up, all I had was bar soap. That’s what soap dishes were for.

Funny, I just bought four foamy dispensers last month . Love them.
Only thing better would be heated foamy soap, but I haven’t seen a reasonable dispenser for that.

Didn’t know that was a thing. Yeah, foamy seems to make it easier to rinse too

Diluting soap during a pandemic. Interesting choice.

Haha! when you put it that way, it sounds...ill advised.

It’s hands free foaming hand soap for me.

Nice. Do you have to buy their specific refill packs, or do you fill your own?

I have a couple refills. Before the current situation the soap lasted about a year before it was empty. I do live alone though, with my son here a couple days a week and every other weekend. I actually got the one in the bathroom after a Wan I was seeing complained about the lack of soap one day.
