This so awful, horrible, just so fake, throw money at my truck custom truck.. The chassis , engine and general build look great. The terrible patina is so off putting. It’s like the painter read about how to patina vehicles by reading about it. This is so far away from that west coast/desert surface rust peeking through faded paint it’s now a joke of itself.

Looks like they added more modern tubular a-arm parts up front and some reinforcements for the trailing arms. That is it’s only saving grace.

Here have some good, real patina https://lewiston.craigslist.org/cto/d/lewiston-1964-gmc-suburban-c30-1-ton-3/7100744932.html

That fauxtina job is way too over done, some warn, or sun baked paint on the high spots is great, but you have to put some thought into where the wear would be. In this case they just stripped the color of 90% of the truck indiscriminately.

I don’t think so.  I t looks like they sanded the crap out of the paint to give it that look.

As far as I’m concerned, and this is obviously just my opinon, patina always looks bad. I’d rather spray bomb a coat of primer on something.

The funny part is, they probably spent more time & money than if they’d made it shiny.

Fake patina is the worst. Patina is one of those things you either get lucky to find or you don’t get to have. Got a nice truck? You gotta trade it for a shitty one, you don’t get to pretend your nice truck aged in a desert for 40 years.

Wow! I was about to pick a bone because it says “Marching #s 305 4-speed. ” Aside from poor spelling, the 305 V8 wasn’t offered until 1976. I thought that perhaps this is a typo, maybe he meant 350, but those didn’t show up until 1967. I was about to call bullshit but then I realized... it’s a 305 “Big Block” V6!

I love weird engines and this is one that I always forget about until I see something like this. GMC made “Big Block V6s” in the late 50s thru mid 7 0s for over the road truck. The engines are 6 0 degree V6s from 305 to 478 cubic inches! They even made some diesel variants.

They also made a 60 degree V8 version that was 637 cubic inches. But the king was the 702 cubic inches V12 that was created for Army missile haulers. There’s a guy in the MD-PA area who has an old GMC COE truck with one of these mounted down between the frame rails mated to a “FWD” TH425 out of an Old Toro na do, but it’s in the back, so now it’s Mid-Engine RWD. Pure craziness!

That’s super weird, I definitely assumed it was a 305 V8.

That... 11.5 liter v12 sounds insane.

It’s wild. The 11.5L V12 is really crazy. A lot of people think it’s “2 V6s welded together” but in reality it’s a special block casting. It uses it’s own block, and a one piece crankshaft and camshaft. But it does use 4 V6 heads, 2 V6 intake manifolds, 4 V6 exhaust manifolds, and 2 V6 distributors (but on a common drive).

It only made 250 HP and 585 ft-lbs.

okay, i’ll say it.

Patina is fucking stupid. No, your truck doesnt look cool, it looks worn out, used, and like someone didnt care for it.

if you are going to rest ore  a truck, restore it. Dont 1/2 ass it.

There is something to be said for a survivor looking truck though. Something that’s been used, but still is hanging on. Then to Resto mod the underpinnings is a n ice touch. But don’t fake it, that sucks.

I’m to the point wher I don’t get the appeal to keep a car showroom fresh and detailed to the nth degree all the time. Too much work. I can appreciate folks that do, but it’s just not as important to me anymore. I like the idea of a nice driver, but nothing more. It’s going to get stone chips and scuffs, but it’s got to be fun to drive. Some day the paint will start fading on my pickup, and I’m okay with that. I just want to keep rust away. That’s how low my bar is right now.

Before the virus stuff, my boys and I were able to go to the Autorama, and it was nice to see all the shiny custom cars upstairs, but I truly enjoyed the more ratty customs downstairs.  Much more my speed.  Customized so you knew the owners cared for them, but not overdone so you knew those same owners probably drive them in the building instead of trailering them.
