And what I’ve got is a Lenovo T500 with a 2.5ghz Core 2 duo , 2gb Ram and 500gb hybrid hard drive with Xubuntu 18.04.
I recently resurrected this system. It originally had an 80gb hard drive in it and it came with Windows Vista
The battery was replaced once in the past and still holds enough charge for 1-2 hours of battery use
It’s a little on the big and heavy side, but still very usable with a lighter weight OS like Xubuntu.
Perfectly fine for web browsing, Netflix or watching downloaded movies

I’m with you on the Linux bui lds. Most of my machines are long-since converted to some flavor of Linux OS. It makes me feel bad thinking of those years wasted “waiting for Windows to re-boot”.
And, if you have the patience to learn them? Apps like GIMP totally rock. I’m surprised sometimes at the things you can get done just in the Terminal Shell for file manipulation.

you jest, but knowing what you don’t know is the sign of a truly smart person.

Krita is a very nice ‘photoshop’ alternative to GIMP for Linux as well, though you can also get Krita on Mac and Windows.
My ‘high-end gaming’ desktop runs Windows 10, but my ‘daily’ laptop and Home Theatre Media Center PC both run Linux Mint 19.3 MATE 64-bit! :)
I personally have nothing against Windows as I’ve honestly never had any issues with it, but to be honest, I prefer Linux....things can be a bit finicky to set up on rare occasion
, but it really stable and so much easier to use than people think it is if you find a good distro....I wish more people would give it a try! I do computer tutoring/repair on the side and have ‘converted’ two people from Windows and they would never switch back at this point!

A smart person who keeps old two wheelers around with no title and no plans to do anything with.

yay thinkpad master race.
I’m a lifelong T hinkpad guy. My aunt used to be a software engineer for IBM, and she could extend her employee discount to family. We would all be buying these high spec T hinkpads for the same price as a midrange Dell or HP laptop. I got spoiled, and now I can never go back.

Yeah... for high end gaming, Win10 is the way to go.
My next mini project is to update a newer laptop my daughter currently has after her new MacBook Air arrives.
That system is a newer i5 system with 4 cpu cores and 16gb of ram. Only downside to it is the slllllow hard drive.
Gonna replace the HD on that one with an SSD have it as my ‘performance’ laptop. And it will have win10.
And I have to say the Xubuntu setup on this Lenovo went very smoothly

Yeah... the real value in the thinkpad T series is the very robust design. They hold up much better to heavy use than many other laptops.

Y
up, it’s hilarious how much less time it takes to set up Linux than Windows...
