Watching all the movies in order of release, actually, and I can’t figure out why, all those years into the future, they don’t have friggin seat belts.

Also if they’re in space and the ship has some kind of central gravity  thingie do bingy, how can it... lean...? Should they be able to do barrel rolls?

Because it’s in the future after President Kushner has the NHTSA abolished.

My wife likes BSG and Farscape so we are watching Voyager from the beginning now.

If you make it as far as 5 without ending it all, you should listen to this :

We’ve already finished all the original cast movies, watching Generations now. With the passage of years, I don’t think that V was all that bad. The special affects were a joke, though.

G enerations?

W hile it’s amazing that Kirk technically outlives almost all of the TOS cast by hiding inside the Nexus, Scotty almost beats him by hiding in a transporter beam. Makes you think.

Sorry for your loss. Watching enterprise in my house, it’s pretty good.

Like most scifi shows, Farscape started out pretty good, then got really hokey. I was never a fan of BSG. Probably because I saw the original when I was a kid.

I got CBS for my wife’s birthday, so we’re binging Discovery and then Picard. Great shows so far!

CBS is offering a free month, so we’re going to check out Picard.

Been rewatching TNG before starting the free trial for Picard. Had the same thought. Most bridge injury seems to come from not having seat belts.

The ship in Picard has seat belts (when needed) ! Amazing what 30 years of new research and development can do!

So you remember the first movie when a red alert came up and Kirk’s chair arms locked down on his legs.  That was a fun homage to the obvious and hilarious lack of seat restraints in the original series.

I thought it was a shitty and anticlimactic way to finally end Kirk after all we’d been through together.

I noticed that, but I guess they ditched the idea in future builds. Restricting driver movement blah blah blah. But it’s supposed to be a warship, and how can you fight when your bridge crew is flying through the air?

Do naval capital ships have seatbelts on the bridge?

I can’t say for sure, but I don’t think so. Then again, I don’t think they would be throwing sailors around like on the Enterprise. I guess that it just seems odd that over the hundred or so years of ensigns going flying around the bridge they would have thought that maybe seatbelts would be a good idea.

Picard is.... well, it’s ok. There are a couple things that really piss me off about it, but it’s mostly made up for in the writing and action.

If you venture into Discovery, the first season isn’t quite as good as the second but it was still enjoyable. It just felt like the pacing was really slow. The second season was great. I’m really looking forward to season 3.

But not as dramatic. The entire debate reflects the high standard to which we held Star Trek relative to all science fiction that came before. It began a new age for the genre.
