I’m bored and have a clean car in the garage so I may as well give it a nice wax to preserve whatever paint is actually good. It’s been forever and I don’t have any more of the clay bar lube that I used to have but I think something in here will work . I would prefer to use what I have and not go to the store for any reason. What would you all recommend? Should I go over everything with the quick detailer, then clay bar using the turtle wax lube and finally wax it? Is there a better way? Can I even use the T urtle Wax lube for clay barring?

Here’s what I have:

Claybars

Meguiars Black Wax Paste

Chemical G uys Speed Wipe Quick Detailer & High Shine Spray Gloss

Turtle Wax Spray Lubricant from a headlight restore kit

The quick detailer should work fine as a clay bar lube.

Is it worth it to quick detail everything and then claybar? Or is that redundant?

That’s redundant. When I’ve used clay in the past I’ve washed and rinsed the car, then spray the quick detailer on the area being clayed.

That would be redundant . Just wash it first. The clay bar will remove everything from the finish and give you a clean surface to wax.

As ITA97 suggests. The QD will do the trick.

Though when you say the car is clean, do you mean freshly cleaned, or cleaned and put away or simply clean but has been outside and may have tree sap, etc... on it?

First, look to see if the car needs clayed. When I say look, I mean, look, feel and listen. Use a little QD on an area and wipe off, then w ith your hand, in a form of Thing from The Addam’s Family, gently glide your fingers over the paintwork feeling for undulations which may show co ntamination, if smooth, you needn’t bother with the clay.

Maybe spray some QD and wipe the car down and then wax for piece of mind, but claying will cause micromarring and swirls, so if the car says it doesn’t need it, don’t do it.
