Realized my issue with the heater fan was that it previously had a ground on the ac compressor. I’ve ditched that fat pig, probably weighs 30 lbs.
So by scavenging the wires and swapping the ground, I was able to restore power to the two slowest fan speeds . For some odd reason the fan has a dedicated power wire just for the high speed, and there is some issue I am having with continuity, so at least I know where the problem lies.
Most importantly, my defroster “works” so that’s an inspection item done. I also forgot to show you guys my new dip stick:
No, not that dip stick:

That compressor looks like circa 1971.

I think my 85 Jaguar has the same compressor. Mine actually still works, though the AC isn’t terribly cold. It certainly robs a lot of power though.

1979, so you are pretty close

This thing really didn't want to come out. Had to cut the hoses. Looks like the refrigerant went to the ozone hole decades ago...

I wonder if there’s an aftermarket AC compressor that’s smaller and more efficient than that behemoth.

The r4/ r134a retrofit compressors look much smaller by comparison:

Do you think you will retrofit it eventually?

Ac is the absolute last thing on the list. I live in the northeast so it isn’t really necessary on a “ fun” car. I wouldn't say never but I am highly doubtful I will ever have the funds for it.
