April Fools, that’s not a picture of my house, we’re all fine. But I did experience my first earthquake yesterday. I was working on my computer and leaning against the wall, when suddenly the wind picked up and the entire house started shaking like crazy. We all gathered under an archway that links the dining room to the living room, and braced ourselves, and within maybe 20 seconds, the vio lent shaking settled down, but the earthquake continued in a more mild form for about a minute or so. The house felt as if it were rocking like a boat. It was weird and disorienting, but kinda fun in a way?

Only earthquake I’ve ever experienced was tiny.

I was in a Mercedes dealership in NY and the salesman and I noticed the the huge front glass (30' tall by 12 0' long) seemed to waver ever so slightly. It looked like someone gripped it from the top and wavered it just a little.

We found out 15 minutes later that there was an earthquake apparently.

I didn’t feel it but my wife did and my work Slack was full of people that did. I’m glad it was centered  pretty much in the middle of nowhere.

With the one in salt lake and now the one in Idaho,  I’m waiting for one to hit in Montana. Complete a full circle around the Yellowstone super caldera and that’s just going to drop everything in that fault line straight in to the center of the earth.

I’d be down with that (pun not intended). I hear there’s dinosaurs, glowing birds, and giant mushrooms and stuff down there!

I thought we had one a while back - maybe 6 months ago?  First time I had ever felt one, in Southern Alberta, nonetheless.  It was late at night.  It rattled our sliding closet doors.

I experienced one in Virginia back in 2011 . I was working as a summer intern at NSWC Dahlgren which was only like 30 miles from the epicenter. I was working by myself in this shed office that was attached to a big vehicle outfitting bay . I felt that same boat rocking sensation you described and was like “wtf? is this an earthquake?” I open the door that joined my shed office to the shop and when I did I could see all the light fixtures swinging from the ceiling, so I just stayed in the doorway for the next couple minutes.

The closest I came was that one that hit the east coast a few years back. I was in Ottawa at the time, and my social media suddenly blew up with all my extended family in Pennsylvania and Virginia asking if they each felt that. Ontario was supposed to have gotten it too, but I didn't notice anything.

I remember my first: one evening I was, for no reason I recall now, parked at tennis courts near my high school. Nobody was around, I probably just didn’t feel like heading home, when my car started shaking.

I assumed at first a friend had spotted me, snuck up behind me, and was playing a prank, but stepped out and no one was around. I don’t remember whether I figured out it was an earthquake or heard about it; probably the latter, since Indiana isn’t known for its quakes (except the world-shattering New Madrid quake, which please oh please don’t let that repeat).

It’s too late. Some poor geologist somewhere is trying to get in to the White House to warn everyone but COVID is keeping everyone away. This was all planned from the get go obviously

Are  you near Spokane? I have vague memories of the 1983 Idaho quake, which was felt around the inland NW, I was just a little kid then.

I mentioned the Illinois fault and largest recorded quake in US history to the SLC people after their minor tremor.

Yellowstone is gonna blow in May. It’s going to kill all the Coronavirus and all the people on earth too.

I’ve experienced 1 in my life. An 8.something in Taipei in a conference. The very long semi-permanent walls dividing the room were rocking and rolling pretty good, but no major damage. They get them frequently there, so the construction was solid.

P waves and s waves. Crazy feeling. P waves are compression and give that windy noise. S waves shake and then surface waves like Raleigh waves and love waves give you “sea legs" feeling. It's trippy. I experienced my first sizable set of quakes here in Utah but I read all about seismology on my cruise last fall.
