Today was only 7 hours? Weird. I like this trend though. Yesterday was my first day running the entire show at work, and... It was a shit show. Problems beyond my control made the morning incredibly chaotic, with most of my drivers leaving an hour later than usual, with about twenty packages each that weren’t plugged into their routing software.
I had t o take out a full route in addition to the operations stuff, so instead of starting it at 9 like I normally would as a driver, I hit my first delivery at... Wait for it... 1:00pm. Yikes.
Despite all that, we hit an entirely unexpected 99% completion rate! First time in weeks that number has been reached actually. Feels pretty good to take care of a crazy day in such a fashion. Oh... And turns out all of you prepping like the world is about to end has brought us to a point where we’ve had more delivery volume in *March* than in November or December. Insanity I tells ya.
Today? Smooth as glass. Zero issues in the morning— which is rare with so many moving pieces—a nd everyone got out way earlier than normal. I still had to take a route out after operations stuff, but somehow I not only crossed the mythical 30 stops/hour rate, but I smashed through it! 32.6. A bit higher even, if the software accounted for unscanned packages.
It’s been a good day. Now I get to move all my stuff into the new apartment, hopefully getting set-up enough to play some guitar hero...
These are popping up everywhere. Someone left a bowl of mini hand sanitizer bottles, which was appreciated!

Those notes are sweet, but I think the sanitizer bottles probably taste sour.

Reading your work posts is awesome. I’ve only had one job I liked and you seem to make any job a good one for yourself. It’s inspiring.

That’s how I feel reading job stuff from a lot of other people on here.
For me it’s more of a mental game than anything else I think. If I let myself focus on the negative aspects, I could get into the head space of hating the job in a shockingly quick time line. I’ve definitely let that happen before. Right now I’m trying to A) say “yes, I can absolutely handle that” to absolutely any work-related problem, figuring out the how part later, and B) roll with the punches, taking any and all forms of change in stride. Makes for situations like this where I feel like I know about a quarter of what I should know to handle a particular position, but I get by on confidence and persistence, and wayyyy too much optimism lol

Here in the DC area, I often get FedEx drivers marking packages that are shipped to me without a signature required (usually pet supplies from Chewy) “attempted delivery but customer was not home.” Which is always infuriating because I get the email status update when I’m sitting at home and obviously nobody attempted delivery, nor did my being home or not have anything to do with it because Chewy never requires a signature on shipments, so if they had actually showed up and I wasn’t home they could’ve left the shit out in front of my house. I’ve been told drivers do this when they’re behind schedule and don’t want to get in trouble for not making the delivery. Never happens with UPS, AMZL or USPS. Only mf’ing FedEx.
