Apparently, Texas kind of sucks at it, though Travis County where I live seems to be a bit better . I also found out there are two cases of Covid in my area code, which is basically my extended neighborhood. Yay.

That site is being super slow but it looks like the state gets a C but the county I’m in gets an A! I’ve been home since the 14th and have gone to the grocery store once and went on two hikes with no one around.

Apparently a “C” , but a lot of people are in the habit of going out of state for everything from routine grocery shopping to medical appointments to hospitalization, due to the fairly limited options here.
The whole state is like 1/3 the area of Wales and has like half the population of Philadelphia and is less than two hours to drive through end to end.

How did you get zip code data? My state is a C but my county is a B. Guess we're doing not so bad -- but there's 103 cases in my county listed here.

I somehow got it to enlarge the Austin metro area, then clicked around on the map until it showed my Zip.

I wasn’t in Sam’s Club yesterday, and even though this huge warehouse was more sparsely filled than I’ve ever seen it, I still had a hard time keeping my distance from people in many parts of the store. The funny thing is, so many people were wearing masks while not keep their distance.

They probably feel safe with the mask on. As an asthmatic, I will wear the one mask that I have whenever I go out now. It’s really just to keep you from touching your own face before you get a chance to wash your hands. But I’ve been training myself for weeks to scratch my nose with my forearm.

My state is C rated overall but at least my county is A. We closed down a lot things early compared to the rest of the country which gives me some hope.

VA is a C, although the governor is about to call a press conference today which many are assuming is going to be a harder shelter in place order. County is also a C.

Not terribly surprised, things have been pretty shutdown since around the 15th.
The state as whole gets a B, we are clearly being let down by W estern Mass and the Providence, RI suburbs.

Just judging the beaches here in Malibu on Saturday and Sunday, I dont think California should score any higher than this. Even if this virus doesnt get those people, getting run over by cars is highly likely to do so. People took the beach parking lots are closed order to mean, everyone should park on the PCH instead and hangout in the road. I suppose its possible to keep social distancing going while doing that, but if you arent exercising you arent supposed to be out at all. Hanging out in beach chairs with a bunch of your friends, 50 miles from home is not exactly within the spirit of the orders..

As I understand things, if you’re washing your hands and not touching your face and cleaning surface and what not, the mask is going to help you avoid droplet-borne cooties and you thus have a fairly good line of defense.

My county got an A and I believe it. Its been pretty dead out and about, people are either at grocery stores, the park, or at home. I’ve always complained that theres nothing to do here but eat at restaurants or shop , but it looks like thats working in our favor in this situation.

My state got a C but these problem counties are really sparsely populated so I’m not sure why they are scoring so low.

What metric are they using? If they’re going off distance travelled they’re showing a massive flaw that biases toward cities, in my state more metropolitan areas have reasonably high scores while rural, spread out areas have failing scores.

Local restaurant, Texas Roadhouse, is running a take out special: four burgers, four sides, big salad, 16 rolls for $20. We ordered it last week, and there were so many people driving up that they got overwhelmed and SD was pretty much out the window. Food was good, though, even if it was 40 minutes after the scheduled p/u time.

It’s based on total distance traveled so rural areas will inherently score lower because everything is further away.
davesaddiction @ opposite-lock.com
> tromoly
03/30/2020 at 14:29 | 0 |
It’s change in distance travel over time (showing less people commuting).
May be biased against rural areas in this way: rural folks may actually work on a farm (at home or nearby) and only drive to non-populated areas for work and to populated areas for necessities (groceries). Mileage driven really won’t decrease much at all if this is your lifestyle.

They’ve got burger deals, chicken deals, rib deals, etc. They had tried to park the cars every other space, but soon the lot was full and the line to get in snaked back a couple hundred yards.

This scoreboard is one of the dumbest things I have seen during this whole pandemic. Florida has a B despite not closing most of its beaches until spring break was over, most cities not doing the mandatory closure thing, etc. Heck, as I type this, I am sitting at work in my office eating a fast food cheeseburger WITH MY FINGERS! lol

That’s exactly how it’s biased, rural communities need to drive more to get essentials so inherently they drive more.

Well overall my state (Alabama) has a D, but the county I live in has a B.
That’s really about what I expected it to be since Jefferson county and Birmingham city officials have actually done a really good job at implementing things that health care professionals recommend before the state and national government did anything.
As for the state’s response... I lost brain cells listening to Kay Ivey speak so.... She said something to the effect of “We’re not closing down because we’re not California or Louisiana” and I assume she meant we’re more conservative than they are. You know. The shining beacon of the progressive movement : Louisiana

Nice. I made the top five states, and top five counties in my state. This is a bit out of date though. We had our first confirmed case over a week ago, now the hospital says we have eight, and this site says we have none.

Pretty much all our restaurants are offering 30% off, with some giving 50% off alcohol. One place added a section to the receipt to add a tip for a fund the servers set up for laid off coworkers.

Yeah, I don’t think people understand that the six foot rule is an absolute minimum, and doesn’t really work if your in an enclosed building. And that you’re not supposed to reuse masks, or that thing thing can possibly enter through your eyes.

yeah but its compared to previous travel. If i do 2 trips to town, and cut that down to 1, regar dless of how far it would still be a 50% drop in travel.

I live in the country on 10 acres. My normal commute per day is 60 miles, and we regularly do more than that on weekends with sports and other activities. Nearly gas station is 10 minutes away. I don’t think I’ve driven 60 miles in the past week.
