In today’s episode, we’ll take an ugly 80s renovated guest bathroom floor and tear it up :

Kinja'd!!!

Next step: tile and more tile. Got this nifty black & white patterned thing for the floor.  I forgot how much I enjoyed destroying things.  Makes me feel productive while I’m stuck at home.

Side note to those of you smarter than me: right now the walls are three layers of tile and then just plaster:

Kinja'd!!!

Should I use some kind of waterproofing paint behind my new tile, like RedGard?  Any recommendations, because some people have also used liquid rubber (the black stuff) to good success.

I don’t have an answer for you, but my grandfather had a hammer just like that one.

Assuming that stall has cement backer board ( Hardibacker, Durock, Wonderboard, etc), then no, you don’t need waterproof paint. If it’s just greenboard back there, I’m not sure paint of any sort will do much but delay the inevitable.

Neither - it’s straight plaster from the 1950s. Been holding up okay, though.

That’s great! Plaster is good shit, even if can be a pain to work around.

I grew up in a house built around 1900, and the original plaster in rooms that hadn’t seen remodels were still in much better shape than the drywalled ones .
