I don’t want to sound callous but maybe this is a good thing, for, you know, reasons. There has to be one very important proviso, however - junior has to be there, on campus, and not safely tucked away in one of his multi million dollar vacation homes.
Thoughts and prayers!

If you read the Politico story objectively, it’s got a hefty layer of left-leaning hype, but if you read between the lines of that, you see Junior taking the play straight out of President Trump’s handbook, announcing something outrageous to get points with whoever, then never backpedaling but the thing sort of never happens. Who do you think get’s invited to the president’s next prayer breakfast?

As I was saying to another Op in this thread, if you read the story, sure, heavy layer of left-leaning bias, get clicks with palace intrigue and all the rest, but Falwell has played this straight out of the president’s handbook. Straight out of. Reaction to this virus is as tribal as everything else has become. If you are a True Believer, then out you go to the office, throw yourself on the grenade. Oh, yeah: and be a spreader and take up a hospital bed when a sick person whose brain is not broken needs it. Is it November yet? I wanna vote.

The headline itself is a bit misleading - leftist clickbait, to some extent. But what he’s doing is asinine, and puts the community at risk.
All these “but muh economy” goof balls miss two critical points:
- the economy won’t come back until we kick this thing, the sooner the better, and
- they make themselves out to be heroes risking their lives to keep the country going, but what they’re really doing is putting OTHERS in jeopardy

Seems to me Virginia is a state that would be down for that. (I graduated high school in Norfolk...)
The sheriff of Alameda County, California, where I reside, told Tesla they had to shut down their Fremont assembly line because coronavirus. Not sure where that stands now, and talk of Elon setting up a ventilator factory somewhere, but yeah.

Let’s perform a little experiment and relocate the school to an uninhabited island somewhere, free from science and the MSM (although I’m sure there are plenty of MSMs in the population of that school ...) and all of those other awful things that are allegedly destroying society and preventing the creation of a modern utopia.
We’ll come back in a year and check on their progress. If it’s a success I might be willing to change my tune, join them and accept that they have found the answer to all of life’s problems, but somehow I don’t think that will be necessary...

Not being terribly familiar with the leanings of Politico I read the whole article without knowing when going in the alleged bias of the source. You summed it up quite accurately. It saddens me that we are in a society that’s all about kissing ass and keeping on the good side of those in power instead of worrying about the bigger picture and all people regardless of whether they’re going to vote for you or not. I frequently feel like we’re living in the Soviet Union or North Korea, full of brainless hordes chanting “freedom” whilst having no idea that this concept also applies to the opposite of their beliefs.

I think you put that well. And I think most people actually have brains, but that many of those brains have become broken and or deranged in the past three years, brains whose hosts occupy both ends of the political spectrum.

I am surprised they aren’t in AL or MS, which are effectively an uninhabited island in a few ways.
No doubt there’s a huge amount of mental gymnastics undertaken by much of the staff and student body there, in terms of MSM and being on a meal ticket provided by others while screaming about “takers” and “socialism” . I feel sorry for those seeking athletic scholarships who find that institution , with its weirdly prioritized sports program, as their only option.

Virginia is blue now. Especially northern VA. Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria are deep blue, Loudoun is blue as off the most recent election. Throw i n charlottesville, too. The rest of the state is purple enough to carry.

My cousin owns a large acreage, like 300 or more, in New Kent County. I go there to shoot machine guns every couple of years and eat venison that he “harvests” on his land. It’s hard for me to think of Virginia being all that blue, but it seems like blue cities are having more and more influence in American politics.

Yeah, but at least he’s thinking about how depressed and fed up people are right now. Freshmen got kicked out of their dorms here, right after spring break. I didn’t enjoy freshman year, but a lot of people do. Especially with a school that seems to draw a lot of out-of-staters like Liberty, it’s the least he could do. Classes are still online, dorm beds are six feet apart, and if people get sick, that’s what happens. There’s no control over that. We all run risks going to places like wholesale clubs, “essential businesses” that are definitely a lot more crowded and riskier than a college campus far below capacity or a restaurant with no one in it.
We need to ease back into life NOW instead of waiting until April 30. Restaurants and low traffic boutiques should start slowly letting customers in (maybe keep less than 10), let entertainment venues allow small group reservations. I don’t live in a severely compromised place (less than 200 cases in my home county), but people have been following these guidelines for at least a week where I live. It’s gotten to the point where people are fed up with “social distancing” and staying home. I understand keeping restrictions in a bad place like NYC, but slowly let the other places integrate again.
Just as I was thinking it was all getting better with more tests, less paranoia, etc.

There’s a big shift happening and as I perceive things, the Old Guard, the Old Way for whom and by whom and who was descended from the people who wrote , the articles of our government were written, will have as their last vestige a passel of judges. We have a pandemic now, but what will surely be next? Insufficient drinking water? Insufficient foodstuffs? *sighs*

If people venture out once or twice a week for supplies, wear masks, and stay six feet apart in large warehouses, that’s one set of risks. Sticking 18- and 19-year-olds into dorms where they will party and have sex and fail to wash their hands or disinfect surfaces because they are young and indestructible, that’s a different set of risks. Youth is misspent upon the young.

i can just imagine a movie scene of a guy with a mullet shooting deer with a machine gun for dinner. it sounds very ‘redneck’
now as long as I know that I wont bite into my venison steak and break a tooth on a bullet, I’d probably do down for taking out a deer with a machine gun for dinner even though i have no mullet
