Fine. You stocked up. You’re ready for a qua rantine that has nothing to do with diarrhea. You also stocked up on all canned goods, including all of the canned chili you could find. Which would require more paper. However, your quar antine lasts two to three weeks. How much do you need for that? A years supply? More? A family of four will use twenty rolls in five weeks. But if you think you will need seventy-two weeks of paper for that three weeks inside, Well, that sounds reasonable ?
My family of four now actually needs to find some soon. Were not sick. Were doing our bit and not taking EVERY box of cheerios we see and EVERY pound of mea t to shove in our garage freezer, because guess what?
They still make and ship this stuff. They still process cows and pigs and chickens and turkey. They never stopped making butt paper. They never stopped making purell and lysol.
Funny, nobody is taking all of the frozen vegetables.
But since everything is on the grocery shelves of your own personal grocery store in your basement bomb-shelter, it’s not in any store and that leads people to also panic buy not for fear it it never being available again, but in fear of the assholes who take it all for themselves. Way to go! You just created a trigger-effect panic society, existing because of the uninformed actions by people refusing to think first.
Remember what they said: Beware of the stupid people acting in large groups.

Sounds like someone got caught unprepared. You know who isn’t worried about what’s on the store shelves? The folks who already have all they need at home.

Preach. If people would just buy what they actually needed there wouldn’t be shortages. Some of the strangest things are being bought out like uncooked beans, how many people in the US know how to actually cook beans? How many people are going to have 20 lbs of flower going stale in their basement in 6 months. This is just fucking ridiculous .

Aso the frozen veggies in my area have been almost as bare as the TP. Maybe your town is just very unhealthy?

Funny part, is they are soon running out during the worst and then have to shop in the panic they helped make. “ Look what I got! Oh hey I need to eat this it’s goin bad...."

In defense of the panicked, the media and the government are seemingly in cahoots to do nothing but to daily sow the seeds of doubt and fear. There has yet to be a plan put in place anywhere - we are still in the shocked and reacting phase. We need, as a nation, to switch the to fully aware and planning stage.

We have been buying everything in our regular cycle. Today, however, I’m going to go do my weekly shopping for two weeks instead of one merely to limit the amount of exposure to the public as prevalence of the virus in my community increases.
Included will be my normal TP run. I hope they have my brand in stock.
And remember to always do your best Cornholio when you pick up TP, or you’re a hoser.

Looking at the competence of the government lately, I can see why some might panic.
And everything should start getting back to normal 2 weeks from today lol

I still don’t know why people decided that they had to hoard toilet paper of all things. My local Costco had some off-brand stuff when my wife went on Thursday, but when we were in Safeway yesterday they were all out of both TP and paper towels. Why paper towels? They don’t have kitchen towels? I hope people aren’t flushing paper towels.
It’s kind of interesting seeing what people are wiping out and what’s still plentiful. We have a stand up freezer so we don’t need canned stuff and besides, there’s still plenty of fresh produce.

If you have places like Save a Lot, Dollar general, family Dollar, etc, give those a shot. If you have them in the poorer parts of town, they are a safe bet to have TP in stock. I am a regular shopper in a low income community (I am passionate about supporting the local independent market in the inner city where i grew up) and I have been able to find everything I need nearly every time. Only a couple trips have not had toilet paper.
I ventured into a Wegmans once since this all started and couldn’t believe how barren the shelves and meat departments were. Although I couldn't help but to laugh that even in a pandemic, racism is still alive and kicking. The only chicken noodle soup I found was the Disney Princess one with Tiana on it. I bought 8 of them.

Well my aunt is an ER nurse of many years and she said this could go on a lot longer than that, I’m not saying hoarding everything is good. Trump is a lying idiot, I saw him for the crooked used car salesman that he is from day one. How on Earth could this guy fool people? If the same number of people support him after all this I have no faith in the American people. Maybe I’ll go back to Hawaii where we feel like another country that get US tourists all the time.

I’ve noticed TP panic buying near me hasn’t slowed much - how much to these people need? I went to 3 stores early yesterday. WM Neighborhood Market had none, Safeway had none, Fred Meyer had a few packages of store brand, nothing else. No sanitizer anywhere, hand soap and bleach sparse. Fred Meyer had a couple cases of wipes which might have lasted another hour. Pasta aisles decimated.
On the pro side, I heard my nearest Costco has regularly had some stock, no doubt because of hard limits.

It’s a psychological thing. It looks like its running out first, because it takes up more shelf space and stores stock less of it. People see it getting low and freak out.

I think an extra reason for the bare shelves of canned and prepackaged food is because the people who would normally eat out three times a day have to “cook” for themselves now. On top of the hoarding assholes.

My cousin is a nurse, and is also pessimistic about short term recovery - this is still the beginning, according to her. I was mocking 45's “Easter” desires, which simply are not going to happen. Maybe a month from then, if we have perfect luck.
That tw eet remains on point with the recent threats towards NYC metro states. You might underestimate the socio-economic ignorance, rightist brainwashing, and simple “fuck you” mentality of a large swath of the country. That’s how he pulled off the con. The base is more devoted as ever, and no doubt the drones with poor education who screech about “socialism” will lap up those stimulus checks without any idea of irony. And through it all, having a critical eye to this regime will still get one branded with “blind hatred”, facts be damned.
I am sure enough invaders are in Hawaii to cause problems now. I’d fear the local economy there, given the dip in tourism. Stolen from a fb feed:

Very true. And people who do the same recipe for the same day every week (taco T uesdays, meatloaf M ondays, etc.) have no idea how to cook without recipes and they freak out when the one ingredient they need is gone. Immediately go to the frozen meal section and hoard.

Yes. And I’m a guy who’s food stores consist of half a load of bread and some pickled jalapeños . That doesn't make everyone who got enough food for a month or two so they can effectively avoid being outside an asshole though. Paper towels due to the increased hand washing and cleaning. Paper towel is easier and I’d argue more sanitary than a towel for both purposes. We normally have enough for a few months, as we grab the Costco packs. And we’ve always had an extra fridge and at least one freezer, now we have two since the old one was acting up and we purchased a replacement last spring and then ended up keeping the old one too. But we’ve always lived like this and with 4 little ones now, we use a bunch more each week.

The Walgreens near me had plenty of TP when the grocery stores were out (limiting to 2 packages per customer)
, and I was reliably informed by the clerk at my local liquor store that a lot of gas stations and 7-11s still have hand sanitizer if you’re OK with the scented kind instead of Purell. I didn’t bother to check since I can work from home and just wash my hands.

I noticed the local H Mart had TP , along with Rite Aid, although a small stock. I too have mostly been staying home, and I know how to wash my hands. If anything, this might teach some people what should have been basic hygiene, then again, never underestimate average stupidity.

There’s a big difference between getting enough stuff to last you a week or two and grabbing everything off the shelf so that you can hoard it, though.
