So I just learned about a special kind of license plate in that Wisconsin will issue to anyone owning one or more vehicles registered with a Collector plate(the 25 year old car, only 9 months out of the year, never expires plate) like the one I have on my Rabbit.

If you have one of these plates on one or more of your vehicles you can buy a special plate for your daily driver that says “Vehicle Collector”so you can let the plebs know you have more than one car, and one of them is old, and probably broken.

It provides no advantages but it does cost an extra 15 bucks upfront, and will have the same numbers as your collector plate. I guess having matching license plate numbers would be kinda cool.

I also just found out that you can get collector plates on a Motorcycle which you’d only be riding March-October anyway, on a good year. So I’ll have to keep that in mind. Most of the bikes I’m looking at are older than 95 anyway.

Matching plates!?!!

Oh, I can just tell this is going on the backburner for the surrounding states who have to deal with that anomaly. At least it should bring up the same registered owner. Then again if you and your opposite number [HA! ] have different names despite numerous legal ties that bind I can see tensions rising.

The whole plates stay on the car thing still blows my mind.

Also I wince bought a car in Minnesota, drive it for 3 months on the previous owner’s plates, and then sold it without ever registering it in my name. Only got pulled over once and they didn’t even mention the plates, just that I had a headlight out.

In my defense the only reason I didn’t register it was because I never got the title. Which is how I learned that you NEVER hand over cash without seeing a title.

The plate thing is weird. When I sold cars, I’d put shitty, beat up WI plates on to brand new $65k Yukon Denalis. So weird.

Yeah I know right? Like that shouldn’t happen, but there you go. My guess is it’ll bring up both plates, and both cars. It’s also says

Subsequent vehicles registered with Collector Special plates will have your collector number plus a letter suffix.

which means you can have your several daily drivers all say “Vehicle Collector ” and they will only be 1 letter apart.

I’ve bought new plates when I bought a car just because my old ones were beat up. My wife thought I was crazy. I’ve also had vanity plates which as a huge scam so maybe I am.

Speaking of old broken cars, how is your Cabriolet doing? I pulled mine out of storage today and put insurance on it. I missed driving it. That thing is FUN.

I don’t know how long Wisconsin’s plate has looked this way but it is very dated, and not in a good way.
