Found this cool remote ( Logitech Harmony One) whilst cleaning the basement. Small problem with it that the previous owner couldn’t fix judging by the chips and other damage to the battery. And the rubber coating was all sticky, but brake cleaner took care of that. New battery on order, and hopefully this thing will be as good as new. And I found another 670 with this one. Great devices, but I think I have enough now...

Those are cool little devices.

I always think I’ll get one to replace the 6000 remotes I have but then look at the prices and never do it.

My first two harmony remotes both had problems with the contacts of a few buttons. Now my 3rd is an ultimate home and if my buttons have the same problems I can use my phone, notebook, or iPad

The touchscreen on the remote is a bit wonky, but it works.

Brake cleaner to fix sticky rubber? That’s a new one for me!

Mine have all come from Goodwill or Craigslist. I don’t think I’ve spent more than $10 for one, with most of them coming from the Goodwill Outlet and therefore setting me back less than $1 each.

These things are almost essential for me. I buy all sorts of interesting electronic gadgets by the pound, and the vast majority don’t have remotes. With a Harmony I can find out if a device works, if I like using it and then  decide whether or not to pursue a genuine remote.

My usual go- to chemicals are acetone (I usually just grab nail polish remover at the dollar store) and strong (99%) iso propyl alcohol. If those don’t work I go for the brake cleaner, but you have to keep in mind that it removes that rubbery coating.

Ah! I could use some rubber removal at this point.
