My old man really wanted to get together for lunch over spring break. Unfortunately he was diagnosed with emphysema a couple months ago (59 years of smoking was bound to do some damage, but he’s in remarkable good shape all things considered ) , so we really couldn’t risk a proper social gathering. Today we decided to do our best impression of cops on patrol, and have a donut party.
The drive through line at the Starbucks was approximately a dozen cars long for an hour and a half, stretching clear across the parking lot.
It was good to see him, we had a nice chat. Despite living less than 20 miles apart, I really don’t see him all that often.

I just promised my dad I’d buy him a set of Konig wheels for his Datsun when/if I get a stimulus check.

Local Starbucks and C-F-A are like that too. Good that you got to see him, enjoy the time.
My grandma (93) has effectively told me I am visiting her for Easter, so I guess I’ll bathe in sanitizer and keep a little distance most of the time.

I know when my grandfather made it to his late 80's, he was at the point where he was going to live his life the way he wanted, and if that shortened his life more than it would have been otherwise, he didn’t care.

Happy to do so. I feel like it was genuinely a good way to go see somebody in these crazy times. I recommend it.

My aunt went to visit my grandmother in assisted living by going up to her window and calling her on her cellphone. Apparently, as she was walking to her car, one of the nurses was just staring at her... a little bit strange, but OK. Later that day an email was sent out reminding everyone that no visitors were allowed on the premises until further notice...
This method is not recommended.

Funnily enough, my neighbor's mom is in a nursing home, and that's exactly how they're doing visits right now.

I think it was fine for awhile there , but they’re starting to ramp up restrictions.

That’s great! I don’t get to see my pops nearly as often as I like (California to Florida is slightly more than a hop, skip, and jump ). But thankfully we can still chat on the phone every few days.

That’s good. We usually talk every week or two, but even living as close as we do I rarely see him more often than every other month.
