With the boy home from school, and me home from work we’re bored out of our noggins. So I picked up a cheap RC 4x4 today.

I gave him a 40 dollar budget and this 30 dollar one was what he picked, because it’s a Bronco. It also has soft rubber tires and a Li ion battery so I’d say he picked decently.

This was also my first exploration int o the world since last Tuesday. The funny thing is there’s way more people out walking and biking around. I guess with nothing to do  and no where to go a walk around town is at least something.

Yeah I have taken more walks around the block in the past three weeks than at least 6 months put together (I already took a lot of walks around the block). Good choice for a cheap father/son activity. You could try getting out the paints and masking tape for a custom livery if he gets bored.

Everybody is out! It’s like it was for me as a kid, peeps walking, kids riding bikes and stuff...

I’ve still got a couple of Nitro RC’s in the basement and some old but maybe usable fuel...It could be weed wacker time!

Cheap is the name  of the game. My brother was big into RCS at one point and encouraged me to get a 130 dollar Axial Deadbolt. Which is a much better entry level hobby grade RC. But 1 I didn’t want to wait for shipping and 2 spending that kind of cash right now is dicey.

Even if I go back to work next Monday the food delivery business is pretty damn slow right now.

My brother had a nitro sandrail style RC for a while. It was almost too fast. He sold it because he was tired of walking so far when it crashed.

If you have a backyard you could set up some ramps and maybe some dirt mounds for jumps. It’s cheap so I would encourage him to make it his own. Paint it, jump it, customize it. Sky’s the limit and he should at least be in the Troposphere about now.

Good luck with that whole work thing. It’s tough out there.

All good ideas. We’ve got a big yard. I mostly wanted to buy this to give home something to do out there so he’s not playing video games all day. Altho honestly once you rip him away from the screen and get him outside he’s 100% happy jumping in a puddle for an hour

Lol yeah that is kind of the problem with all of them (too fast) and those crashes are almost always brought on by testing the range limitations of the radio, haha. One of mine has a second gear, you need a HUGE space to get it to make the change but we got it to go over 80 mph (measured by the car we were driving behind it lol.

The sweet ass electric ones are the same way. I was all set out to buy an HPI savage flux, then they made the mistake of letting me try one. The fackin thing just flipped backwards, it was so hard to control I hated it and obviously didn’t buy one. I’d like to get something in the near future to entertain the kiddo (and myself) in the back yard.

Ha all too true. When I was little I would spend many summer afternoons digging an enormous hole in our backyard with my brother. It actually grew to quite an alarming depth every summer before we filled it in.

We bought the lad a Maverick Ion DT for his birthday....it’s quite a thing for a small cheaper RC. Speedy, 4x4,  easy to control and not a huge range on the controller. Fortunately, there’s good parts availability because he’s already managed to do in a driveshaft!!

Dispose of any old fuel, the alcohol will have sucked moisture out of the environment by now. Get fresh fuel and a new glow plug or two and have fun.
