I work from home, so I was never going to get a vacation from COVID-19, but my company has also cancelled PTO until at least June (seems like they shouldn’t legally be able to do that?) so I won’t be taking any normal vacation days either.

My wife works for  Major University™ in Texas. She worked through official spring break all but one day, as she would have anyway, and will likely continue to work. Honestly, I don’t see what is so essential about her job, though I suppose it’s essential to the department.

I technically started a new job yesterday, but haven’t been able to do anything. My phone is supposed to be here tomorrow, laptop on Thursday, then they’re going to try to have me work from home, though  everyone else says its not very effective. And a certain percentage of our customers are shut down.

Officially, we’re doing it through April 3rd, but I very much doubt we’ll be able to go back to work after that. I expect this will be my shortest ever tenure at a company, they’ll probably be looking at layoffs if we’re not up and running in early April. At this point, I’d trade all my vacation days for the next 2 years if it would somehow guarantee still having a job.

Yep, cruising right along, working 50+ hours a week right now . Real estate appraisers are part of the financial sector, so we are still out and about, walking thru peoples homes on a regular basis. I’m currently booked out until the first week of April. A homeowner canceled their appointment with me last week, and was quite upset to learn I would be able to reschedule for two weeks. Tough shit, dude. Stay at home and and watch some Netflix.

I’m in the ‘both’ category.

I’ve been off last week and will be most of this week, but I’m scheduled to work Friday for 5 hours and I’ll be on call this weekend. I deliver instruments and implants for orthopedic surgeries. All elective surgeries have been cancelled, but people still fall and break their hips or get into car crashes or need revision surgeries, so we’re deemed essential. My company is trying to run on a skeleton crew to help keep exposure down so they came up with this rotating schedule.

Also, my husband is a manager for a grocery store chain so he’s been at work this whole time.

Firstly, where do I find one of those inflatable party boats, because I need one.

Second, in the same boat, business as usual for me. I have the option to work from home if needed, but I’m in a fairly low risk area, and there’s lots of space an minimal interaction in my office so I’ll monitor the situation and keep coming in for now.

So far automotive repair has been deemed essential, so we’re here. But it’s the doldrums. No phone calls, no work, I’ve cut back to a skeleton crew to minimize risk and taking all precautions with clients and their cars . Not sure how long we can keep the doors open, I’m just hoping to avoid layoffs and use a little  reserve to prop up the paychecks to some percentage of normal in the short term.

As the flood warning system operator for the local flood commission, I’m still working. I’ve got an entire building to myself, and a work truck no one else uses, so I don’t really care about working vs. the folks that are not working. If it comes down to it, I can work from home.  I can run the software side of the system from anywhere with an internet connection, and if I took the work truck home there would be a supply of tools, testing equipment and spare parts for the field sites on hand. I do take my work laptop home now for just such an emergency.

This is part of what pisses me off about this virus.

They claim it’s soooo bad, yet they have no means of testing to know how many people have already had it or how many currently have it. Sure people have died, likewise thousands die from flu every month, why no quarantine for people with the flu to stop that spreading like wildfire?

Given the symptoms and severity, I’d put money on Coronavirus being what ran through my family and friends back in December/January. If that’s the case, how many people have already had it? Why is it suddenly a freak out now almost 4 months later?
