A while ago, I had gotten this magazine ad to frame and decorate my apartment with.
After I purchased the ad, I figured I needed to get a watch to match. So yesterday, I bought this:
Bought it from a jeweler in Long Island and went and picked it up at Fedex today. It was exactly what I was looking for, so when it popped up for sale I immediately negotiated a deal.

Not some SLB coveralls. I did get chastised by the company man one time for not knowing who he was. I guess that was supposed to be a prerequisite of working in the oil field.

Where was it posted for sale? Depending on how the next few months go, I will most likely be back in the market for a watch. I have a very specific wish list that gets a little difficult on the pre-owned market. Although, I nearly said fuck it when I was in Switzerland and bought one of the exact watches I wanted new haha

I actually got it off of ebay, it was listed a few other places, like chrono24, but it was easy enough to just buy it there. I got it as a present to myself for my 30th; I can’t afford the other watches I’d rather have.

The short list is a speedmaster 38 in a specific color which is the hard part. Can find older speedmasters all day but I kinda want to stick to my specifics. We’ll see. The easy watch to find is a tank, but I need to double check the sizes. The smaller auto still fits me fine, but I do not know the specifics. That’s just a watch I saw awhile back and decided I wanted one lol.
The real wishlist watch is a Daytona, though. It seems like they hold their value super well, to the point of I’d probably just buy one new, if I decided I wanted to spend that much.
I almost bought the speedmaster in Switzerland, though. Although it's expensive, it's not ridiculous. I might just have to pull the trigger haha

What dial color? I think it's best to stick to what you want, be happier long term that way.

Gray dial and orange second and chronograph hands. It isn’t the most formal looking watch, but I do like a splash of color. And I need the 38 BC I have small wrists haha

I have large wrists, which is why I was hesitant about the Datejust a couple years back. Despite it, I think it looks fine on my wrist. That is quite a nice example. I know David took years to buy the Rolex he was looking for and is quite happy with it, so I’d hold out for the one you really want.

His watch is super nice. Although I do really want a Daytona (classic steel and black), I have some reservations about actually wearing one. For the same reasons I feel self conscious about my car sometimes. I certainly would not be disappointed with an omega, bc I've wanted one for a long time as well, and it sends a slightly softer message than a Rolex haha

I understand that, and maybe that’s more noticeable than a datejust. It seems only people who care about watches have made a comment on it; I do get being a little self conscious , because a lot of people get them as status symbols. The reason I didn’t get the gold bracelet with it is because I find it to be a little too gau dy. I don’t think you’d be disappointed with the Omega.

I like gold in very small doses so I think you made the right call with the strap. I know we shouldn’t worry about it being a status symbol, but that will always be on my mind. If I did find a great deal on a Daytona, I would for sure buy it. I'll just have to see how the year goes. Oil is in the toilet right now but somehow, I'm still pretty busy. I am cautiously hopeful for the rest of the year haha

I’m pretty surprised they didn’t try flaring off wells in protest of the price drop out recently.
