I read somewhere else that it weighed over 5,000 lbs. without the engine, seats, etc.

Very cool! There is a company in the States called ICON3D Tech that have build a cement 3D printer for building houses, very cool technology. Wouldn’t mind having a home built by them when they get it up and running well! They are super cheap as they take like no time to build!

Their plan is to test it thoroughly in a humanitarian mission to somewhere in South America (I forget where) and build a small community of small houses for the very poor of the reason to test the printer.

Ive seen that, its very cool. There is one issue , though, and that is finishing the house - electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc. You’re trading off framing costs for finishing costs. Ive worked in construction, in both wooden structures and concrete structures, and I think concrete is often more of a pain in the butt.

I’m not saying its bad, or not worth pursuing, it is a really cool idea, but like a lot of new tech startups, it does feel a bit half baked.

I've done some work with this, its very cool. And though it was made at Oak Ridge in TN, a lot of the video was shot at my work center. In fact I see it around our campus quite often.

Yeah, but traditional concrete you have to set all at once. The concrete they use for this is quick-drying, so they can literally build the wall up to a certain height, pause the build, lay in pipes or wires or whatever at whatever height they need to be at, then start the build again and the concrete just keeps it in place.

Sortof like here:

given the risk of UV degrad ation, I wouldn’t ride on it unless it had a coating of fiberglass.
