!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . I had surgery on Thursday (doctor was surprised to find five pieces when he got in there). I’ve been in recovery all weekend, basically doing nothing, which is weird for me.
I kind of like doing nothing.
Well, not really. I miss walking my dog (wife deems our energetic pup to be too much of a risk that I will impact my recovery by pulling him back from chasing squirrels).
I think that I see a squirrel . . . THERE
I miss being able to scratch him properly with both hands. I miss sleeping in a normal position and not wearing a sling while doing so. I miss doing my part to keep our house running.
Very serious and bulky sling that makes it look like I’m wearing a seatbelt
But I seem to be healing well. Tomorrow will be tough to get back focused on work . . . but still be at home. And I will be annoyed by typing slowly with only one hand (it’s awkward to type with this sling on).
Naturally my friend who was encouraging me to buy the motorcycle is now trying to pick out a fun car with which to replace the GTI, as consolation. I don’t need to replace the GTI, especially if we are driving less.
He’s a great guy, and quite a troublemaker.

Welcome to the Oppo broken bone club. Between your collar bone, Peter’s back and shoulder, and my shattered tibia we’ve got damn near the whole body covered.
I’m starting week 7 of being home. It ain’t fun but it gets better.

I did okay with a week away from my team last week, but it’s going to be hard to maintain good relationships without casual, in-person conversations. It’s hard to do that remotely.
Feel better soon!

wow. I think this will show you the importance of decent gear...
you had a small drop and broke that..which I cant fathom how (then again, young guy syndrom here)
Where as I slammed into a guardrail post doing at LEAST 80mph and have more use of my body then you do...shocking.
Seriously though, I hope your recovery is short and sweet.

I once broke my collar bone playing flag football in elementary school. Broke 6 others since then, but mercifully I am currently intact. Wish you a speedy recovery.

How does it affect you in the car?
Y ou’ll be sat in the passenger seat, as that’s on the right for you, the seatbelt would follow the straps of your support. I guess sitting in the back on the left would be easier as the seatbelt would cross diagonally the other way.
I hope your recuperation is smooth and speedy.

Basically the bike went into the ditch and I went over like a whip, I guess. Padded bike jacket kept my shoulder intact when it slammed into the ground, but apparently enough force went into the collarbone. I may simply not be tough enough to ride, since this little accident did so much damage.
I’ll leave motorcycles
to you and
I’m
glad that you wear such great gear. I hope that you are feeling better quicker than expected. This collarbone is really just an inconvenience now that I’m a few days out from the surgery.

I wore the shoulder belt under the sling , not too badly off.
I should be okay to drive at this point, and I’m glad to not be driving a manual trans at the moment. But I can’t fully swivel my neck for looks, plus I struggle to signal, which is very frustrating (all based on pre-surgery driving observations).
But I’m going to try to mostly be a passenger for a while. Which is hard to do quietly.

It definitely changes things at work. I’ve had a steady flow of visitors so that’s been nice. Currently working on learning how to walk again without the aid of physical therapy. They keep cancelling my appointments.
What are you looking at far as recovery time?

“ plus I struggle to signal, which is very frustrating”
Just stick some BMW badges on the car and you’ll be grand. ;)

Jeez, that stinks about the PT getting cancelled. I’m supposed to be good as new in eight weeks, with no PT, if I understand it correctly. Sending any healing energy that I can your way.

bike crashes have a tendency to be weird. Either bike takes no damage and you take a lot. the other way around
...there is no rhyme or reason behind it.
I do hope you try again...maybe with a little less HP and bravado. and get the knack for it.
My recovery is going GREAT to be honest with you. I hope to be out of rehab this coming
week.

Good deal, that’s not too bad. I 'should' be back to normal, eventually. I was in good shape before so that's helping.

I’m really glad it’s going great!
I will likely at least get the basics back at some point with MSF.
