Number of deaths still lower. I believe that America got the less aggressive version of the virus, the same as China and South Korea and not the hyperaggressive one from Europe.

Spain = 46.8 million people, United States = 327 million. We’re guaranteed to be at least 3rd in the world in number of infections and 3rd in deaths by the time its over , though we could also wind up #1. Don’t pay attention to India not being too bad right now, that will change.

We’re certainly number one in anxiety disorders and pessimism, which is sure to help us get through this.

Good reason for that, a year or two  of a complete and total societal shutdown is enough to stoke plenty of pessimism.

“ I believe that America got the less aggressive version of the virus, the same as China and South Korea and not the hyperaggressive one from Europe.”

It’s pretty common for viruses to mutate as they spread, and less deadlier strains are almost always favored in nature. But any analysis at this point would be ill advised.

You better start early then, wouldn’t want to run out after people start hoarding it!

If our society is as weak as you seem to think it is, then it’s time for a new one anyways. World’s always changing, bud, that’s what makes it such a special place.

If you think billions of people can  close ourselves off from each other and live as prisoners for 9-18 months with no livelihood and everything will be A-OK afterwards, that’s not optimism, its delusion.

I’d caution the use of worldometers... I use it myself but getting up to date data is hard because of different timezones and the sources.

Say,

Most of the increase in the US was attributed to NY state, where 12K new cases were added today. NY state alone has a comparable % of population with *confirmed* COVID-19 than the Community of Madrid.

As testing ramps up, we’re gonna get a clearer image of where exactly the US is. Hopefully we follow suit and massively expand testing.

Also, just a heads up, while they are sure there are two strains, there is not a consensus on whether one is  more deadly. Here is some literature for those interested.

It means me, my friends and family have probably set our lives up a bit differently than some. I also have a pretty broad historical view of nature and humanity and am not caught off guard regarding sudden change. Support you lr communities, it’s all we can do. We’ll either be successful or we won’t. We’re already in the shit so it’s no use panicking now.

“Adapt or Die” has been mother Earth’s mantra ever since the first organic molecules began making friends.

Note that die is also an option, many people will come to discover

At this rate it’s going up by a factor of 10 every 10 or so days in the US. I suspect the rate is misleading though do to slow testing, though that is bad news as it suggests much more out there than they show....

Yep, if you are out in the world, it will happen. We are now hunkered down because we really don’t want to get it when everybody else has it over the next 6 weeks.

Check this out. It l ooks like a whole bunch of families will be getting Covid as soon as their precious children come back home . I’m sure mom and dad and grampa and grandma will be thrilled by their choices.

What about in grocery stores? What about the fact that you could have it right now and be asymptomatic?

I feel the chance of being exposed to date is slim . I haven’t traveled for months and we haven’t been exposed to anybody who has traveled that I know of. The last big events we attended were local Symphony concerts   12 days ago.

We are in the hinterlands. Until last week there were no known cases when 5 individuals in two households were discovered in a neighboring town. We were already locked pretty much down do not know of any contact possibilities.

My wife and I are lucky because both of our jobs will continue online. We’ve bought food for two months. Our stores in Western Wisconsin are pretty empty of people. Our exposure will be shopping for once a week or less and that will shut that down once density of infection goes up . We are in early 60's but both in good health and have good immune systems. All we can do is play the cards dealt and w e will see.

A picture of my ‘88 Ex Firehawk CRX Si. It’s been in storage for about 15 years. I had planned to pull it and get it back on the track for vintage racing. I guess plans change.

By the way, I can order the groceries online and drive up and they load the trunk. In fact I bet we are within a week from that being the norm.

I was about to ask why less deadly strains would be favored by nature, then I used my brain.

That's one way to stop a virus quickly...
